on advice about chipping from members here i decided to take a look at prices of super/optimax at various filling stations today, as i've been advised to use it when i upgrade the chip. But it turns out it's not available in Ireland anymore. Just 95 oct..

I'm getting so pissed off with this little "emerald Isle"

they will gladly take the import duty, 1200 euro road tax , massive insurance and every other conceiveable thing to make owning a high-perfomance very expensive from me, and i don't complain, because if something makes you happy then you don't mind paying over the odds.

But then i find i don't even have the option of maintaining it the way i want to because some arsehole up high decides "super unleaded? who'd want that? not me , i drive a family saloon, 95 octane is fine for me so f*ck everyone else"

I'd actually like to go to the pub now and bore some poor guy with my whingeing, but i cant even do that because i'd have to stand outside in the pissing rain to smoke............

Proud to be Irish?........... proud me arse....

do they not have bp garages at least! as there is bp ultimate thats 97 RON so bit better, best of finding the best fuel then using some octane booster availabe in most car shops.

BP were taken over here by statoil around ten years ago and dont think they offer anything but 95.

Incidentally shell do offer V-Power, 95 unleaded which is supposed to clean your engine, costs a fortune and wait for it ................ "developed in conjuntion with ferrari".......and......."adds a bit of ferrari to your engine" ...........oh just f*ck off shell :hurl:

but cheers greg ill check out the octane boost option.

Hard luck Chewie, is that about £800 you pay for road tax?

How much is a litre of unleaded there? Shell optimax is about 92p / litre here. Unleaded is about 85p. What a rip off!

Do you still have some smoking pubs? Are ppl generally happy with the smoking ban?

Sounds like I would move if I lived there!

i go over to ireland 2 or 3 times a week

and i must say,i love the place

great countryside

hardly any traffic

coppers aint got cars fast enough to catch you

very friendly people

fantastic houses in the country (loads of land)

and as for diesel..one euro a litre

takes me longer to get across the m62, than it does to get from one side of ireland to the other

go on admit it,,,you love it

Hi Trev

at the mo unleaded is around 96 cent a litre , and if you do the math , it works out a bit cheaper than what your paying, but doesn't compensate for the extortionate road tax.

regarding the smoking ban, the law is being heavily imposed with heavy fines being given out even to rural areas where people thought it really wouldn't affect them. Smaller pubs are shutting down due to lost revenue, and , the people i feel most sorry for, old age pensioners, are finding themselves stuck at home because its just too cold to stand outside a pub.

In fairness, a lot of publicans are making quite decent smoking areas outside with heaters and such, but it doesn't take away the humiliation of having to get up from the table like a leper and go outside.

government propaganda keeps telling us what a roaring success it is and people are generally accepting it but its all shite.

I believe something is being planned for the UK soon , but i'm sure it wont be as draconian as what has gone on here.

cheers

AND....................way better road structure,......theres no point in outracing the cops if you have to f*ck up your shocks and suspension :D

so true

some of the roads are crap

and i dont think they know what street lights are

dont bother with octane booster they are really not worth your money. Lucky to add 0.2! Source some toulene, if you get stuck PM me:D

PMSL....

Whats that stuff then

Allways spelling it wrong, its tolulene. Do a agoogle on it for info but its a really nasty to us humans phenol but it is used in aircraft fuel amongst other things. Its totally safe to run in a mix for your car. Infact your engine will run far better, even at idle!

Tolulene is about at £1.25 per litre if my memory serves me.

Just add toluene in a 10:1 regular unleaded to toluene ratio = 110 octane:D Shove that up your optimax or your rip off octane boosters:D

I remember reading bout this a while ago - the 200sx boys were using it

how much toulene would you mix if you were gonna bung a full tank of petrol into your Z?

Where can you buy toulene from?

Cheers

just add 10% to your 95 unleaded. So if you put in 40litres add 10litres. In the North, Envy sell it. However this stuff is pick up only as its hazardous material. Petrochem companies will sell it and deliver it but only to business adresses that can be accessed by an artic:D

Roy, that's 25%! :D :D :mac1:

10% would be 4 litres to 40 of fuel.

Simon.

well I was pissed last night:D yes you are correct simon.
