This is exactly what I was describing happened to mine when I put the skyline brakes on then started to really use them, why my ABS has the fuse pulled at the minute and is soon going in the bin.

Hit the nail on the head there. And in a way that even I could understand! Good to think a company like Stoptech have taken the time to compile that information. Very, very useful John :)

very interesting read. There solution is specific Braking kits that will work with the standard ABS ECU settings....but what about the alternative of ABS ECU repogramming....is that possible, allowing reprogramming of the stock ECU settings to match the new Brake components ?

Might well be, but on the ZX it's probably best to bin it anyway due to the extra pipework that runs back / forward down the car.

TCS - Traction Control System - An electro-mechanical control system designed to monitor and influence wheel dynamics, and ultimately vehicle dynamics during acceleration maneuvers. In order of priority, these systems are intended to enhance vehicle 1) stability (RWD applications) 2) steerability (FWD applications) and 3) launch performance (all applications). Typical systems consist of 3-4 wheel speed sensors, an ECU containing the algorithm processing the wheel speed information, a series of solenoid-driven valves, and a pump-motor subsystem which can be actuated to build, hold, and release brake fluid pressure from the wheel-end brake components.

A good read john, but think that the guy needs to proof read his post as I have never come across a TCS which works by building, holding or releasing brake fluid pressure :nono:

I'd have to disagree there, John. The best solution IMO would be to reprogram the ABS as Legrath suggested.

ABS is an essential safety addition to any car, especially one with the capabilities of the ZX as the "water barrel" scenario demonstrates.

Top-notch article though - it fully explains things for me.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

You might be right, but wouldn't fancy trying to figure out the code.

That was a great article .. explained things for me as well ..

Cheers John

All the best .. Chris P

let us know when you have ;)

without some proper tuition and experience, I'd say that most of us would rely on ABS in an emergency situation.

There is quite a difference between knowing what to do in an emergency situation, and actually doing it when the time comes. :(

Yeah, I know what you mean about actually doing cadence braking, but it's not too hard.

I personally had mine keep rolling on both my Z's with R34 brakes so disabled it, just didn't trust it after that.

I did a course on one of those skidpan areas when the car is attached to a cradle .. It was well worth it.

Learn't loads.

I wonder if it is possible that removing the standard fit ABS equipment or disabling by removing the fuse that there is a potential problem with invalidation of insurance cover?

I would have thought so and it could be argued by insurance or/and police in the event of an accident that removal of "safety equipment" led to the end result of an accident been worse, ( we all know what they are like for not paying out if they can!) not saying that it is right or wrong either way, but worth a consideration.

i dont know of any insurance companies that go through the fuse box to see if all the fuss are intact its just not done so theyll never know its like strapping all these goodies inside your motor (internal engine mods) the insurance company would never pay for it to be stripped (maybe a bad example) but in the years ive been looking at bent motors all that is done is the engineer sticks his foot on the brakes if theres pedal pressure then all`s good
