Red stuff pads take a short while to warm up wink.gif Green stuff may be more suitable for road driving. This of course is not true if we all go to Elvington early next year... wink.gif

i got quoted today £89 for redstuff.

Wazza says its only the first couple of times when you brake and your expecting it anyway, and of course your not thrashing your car when its cold anyway so it shouldnt be a problem.

no way would i pay £89 for brake pads thats a rip off

If you want pads for track use then get Ferodo DS3000's. They are a full race pad. Do a search on them and you'll be surprised what you find. Coeffcient of friction of 0.62. They hold they out to - at that friction level - to 750degs and beyond. I think I've been quoted as them withstanding 1000degs before giving up the ghost. Next time I'm at the track they're going in.

I'm just about to throw in a set of Mintex 1144s for the road, I've been running on a set of Pagid RS4-2's (Rally/Intermediate compound) and they're too brutal for the road. Excellent stopping but also rotoreaters.. at 120+ hitting the brakes you can feel them taking metal off the rotors!

Mintex 1144's have a coefficient of 0.45 and have a fairly high temp, but are not for track use in a 300!. They apparently have very good cold properties which is what you need in road pad. I'll find out next week when I put them in (currently sitting on my desk at home)

All the brake experts I've ever talked to say never try and put a compromise road/track pad in and expect it to perform well in both. Have one set of pads for the road and one set for the track.

Compare Mintex/Ferodos with EBC redstuff at 0.33 (!) the Ferodos nearly have double the friction = double the "grabing" and Yellow Stuff their "race" compound have 0.34 average. *cough* shite *cough*. Judging on friction alone I wouldn't rate them as being "the best race pads" like Max Power does haha!!!. If that was the case you'd find them in BTCC cars etc. The Ferodos were developed on BTCC cars and you'll find them in a lot of racecars.. our premier endurance event this year the winning team had Ferodos on it, the Aussie V8 Supertourers use Ferodos as well, some WRC teams use Ferodos.

So I'll tell you what they're like when I'm next at the track. I've been assured by the guys who supply to most/all of the race teams in NZ these are the ones to get.

Rotors are more expensive than pads so I dont want any 'Rotoreaters' biggrin.gif so I might try the Mintex 1144's. Cheers Rowan

Mac lets hope you get years of service from those pads, you dont want to have to buy them every few months LOL

Z ya

Paul

Gotta say the Kevlar ones are shit hot !

on me last track day, my motor managed to stay longer on the track than most without any brake fade, paid £109.00 for mine, smithy

HMMMMM! Smithy £20 cheaper frown.gif from where may I ask?

Heyyyy, i'm a business man, what can i say !

They are good though, no question, Smithy

I got RedStuff in mine and am happy with them, I got em with a discount from Gazmo at Middlehurst - they are the same pad for the Skyline R32 in case anyone didnt already know so if anyone is ever stuck (like I was) they sometimes have them in stock...Mention your drom the 300zx forum and wnagle a discount.

Anyhoo - I like 'em! Not great for a 2 second stamp. but anything more and they just get better and better. I could have got GreenStuff pads but they even though they are rated for road use, they are more suited to smaller cars with less inertia when braking and so dont heat up as much. The redstuff will withstand the 300 braking to a stop with no fuss and I have real confidence in them. But its horses for courses really. The idea of having road pads and race pads is obviously best. But the Redstuff dont shed all over my alloys and dont wear quickly so I'll stick with them, although next pad change I'll get some new grooved discs as well.

Dont even bother with pads that cost about £40 as I tried some and they where lethal! Lucas pads from Halfords, a distinct case of 'oops my brakes have faded to nothing!'

Beware!

I currently have £19 pads from Beds Battery! biggrin.gif And I can't fault them at the moment. Had them on for...oooh...I don't know...about 8 weeks I guess and everything from cold stamping to short bursts is fine. Plus they don't powder my allys with a fine coating of brake dust.

That said, would still be interested in some RedStuff. I'll meet you in the car park at noon - brown paper bags at the ready wink.gif

£19 !! They must have seen you coming, mine were £17 LOL

Made by Solid Ace (you'd never guess that was a Japanese company would you?) and they're slightly better than what was on the car originally. They survived Kemble without fading at all (although the inside of the car stank of burnt brake fluid for a few days afterwards LOL).

I'm waiting to get new discs before upgrading the pads as they're scored fairly badly.

Perhaps you mistook me, Dylan, dear - that was £19 for all 4 pads biggrin.gif
