Are there any signs to indicate the timing belt needs changing?

Featured Replies

Not really, just replace at 55-60K miles as a routine.

If you have just bought the car and don't know when/if it was done, then do it anyway.

Whilst doing the cambelt, change the waterpump, thermostat those 2 little coolant hoses at the front of the engine and the other drive belts (PAS, A/C and alternator). They all need to be removed anyway and Murphy's law tells us that if you don't, they will need replacing within a few months....

......I learnt from experience :mac1: :o

thanks, how much should it cost to change the timing belt?

Think this one pops out from near tha Camcovers at about 55k

The previous owner may have had the cambelt changed or took the sign out of the engine bay :p

Ryan at Ztech did mine and a very good job he did of it too. Why spend all that money on labour though if its not going to go any faster afterwards! Why not fit an underdrive pulley at the same time, excellent mod and won't cost any labour to fit either;)

Depends where you go, look to pay around the £250 mark....

£250 for a 60k service including parts I wish :p , ZTech is probably one of the cheapest places in the UK to have this service performed and its £450 including parts

was that just for the timing belt, or was the water pump and cam seals done too.

Water pump and new timing belts...but this garage is local to me...

Sound like a real bargain - as Ryan says his price of £450 is V.good

Surely the parts alone come to almost £250 - more if you replace the belt tensioner as this runs to a few pounds....

Nice one on getting it done for that, though Mark
