Hi,

The other day in a car park I saw a rather nice looking silver Supra with that metalflake laquer sprayed on it. Thought it looked really nice but don't know anything much about it. Anyone had this done and is it a expensive job to do or is it just a case of masking up and blowing a coat of it over the car?

Thanks,

Justin

probably best to give peter at pps a call

he will know

My brother used to do this years ago, before it went out of fashion and then came back in. The flakes are mixed in the laquer, but you need lots of coats to get the deep look, and wet and dry to flat each coat, IIRC, then clear on top. So its quite labour intensive.

Tried it once years ago on a bike tank, veeeerrrryyy labour intensive and not easy, if you stand your spray gun still for only a second you get too much flake in one area and it looks sh1t, took me six goes to get it right but then im not a pro.

Here's a tip put 2 ball bearings in the gun and shake them every pass.

Make sure the bearings are clean.

This will stop setelment and give you an even finish.

I've seen this effect applied badly.

Metal flakes above the level of the paint.

Looks and feels like loadsa dust under the dust.

Be careful who you choose to do the painting
