i had no reply either - contrarty to what i posted in this thread half a year ago ( :D ) my question was very sensible - about did tony b-liar agree with Michael Howard as to the importance of re-establishing respect and authority in classrooms. i think tony was like: "no i disagree we want kids to develop themselves, thats why we let them bring knives and guns to class, let them beat up teachers, bully others to the point of suicide and generally wreck every school in the country. we dont want to interrupt this development" but he forgot to press the SEND button back to me.

I went to a grammar school (Adams' Grammar for anyone in NW mids who might know it, in Newport Shrops/Salop) and was completely unaware really of comprehensive schools and their pupils till quite late on, and it horrifies my that people from comp schools beat up teachers, bully people to the point of suicide and carry knives. None of this happened in my school (bear in mind I am 19 and only left school 18 months ago!!) and i find it shocking.

 

Personally I think schools should be allowed to control their admissions. This means that people of the same grade will be taught together thus releaving some of the boredom of pupils left behind/so far ahead they are bored. Many of the trouble makers/bullys in schools are actually hyper-intelligent people who are not given the oppotunities they deserve/need to develop to the fullest of their potential! When mr blair suggested closing down grammar schools i couldn't believe it. This country is bad enough as it is without another 10 - 15% of potential acheivers becoming bullys/gun touts/drug addicts because their need is not catered for in the classroom.

The balance should be that this tax my wife and I pay should improve services such as education, health and hospitals. In basic terms it should improve the lives of those the Labour government are responsible for. Am I willing to pay for improvements for my family and fellow citizens? Yes, of course I would.

Is this happening – are Labour using my money to make a difference? Is this the Yang to my Yin? I am not so sure - I am confident that you could provide me with a portfolio of stats proving otherwise - but are you delivering a service to your people that really matters? That really makes a difference?
