Weird, but I test drove a zed before I bought this one, and the main thing that put me off it was the strong smell of petrol (!)

Now my car has developed the same problem. I;ve had it checked out and loose fitting rubber hoses were blamed and replaced, but the problem persists.

There's no obvious leaks when the car is parked up - so I'm after suggestions - what do I try next?

Thanks.

Again your best bet is take the throttle cable cover off and follow the fuel lines back to the fuel filter tightening the clips as you go bud :D then if this still doesnt work get in touch with Smithy and get a set of his fuel lines...

All the best mate

Matt

mm, the garage reckons they've done all that (twice) - and they reckon the fuel lines are in pretty good nick, so I was wondering if there was another possible reason for the fumes (which really are quite noticeable now).

Thanks for the help.

I've got the same problem when cold Nigel, and I've got Smithy's SS Fuel Lines! I haven't looked under the throttle cable cover yet though.

Would be interested to hear if you track yours down bud...

I had the same, It was the line under the throttle cable cover.

But it was only a weak jubilee clip not the line itself!

Yep, my garage suggested that when very cold the metal contracts more than the pipe and so there can be a small gap between the two if the clips aren't tight. But they say they've fixed all that, but I still get the odd blast of neat optimax, and it doesn't seem like a small leak from where I'm sitting - it's a stronger smell than I get when I'm buying the damn petrol!

Then there's the fuel consumption, which is BAD, even for a zed. I haven't done a proper calculation yet, but I've noticed I'm filling up more frequently.

I really thought I had a full blown leak somewhere, but it musty only be apparent when the fuel pump is pumping, cause I never leak puddles when I park.

I'm going to check the lines again, but I'd be pleased to hear from anyone with any other ideas.

Mine is getting a bit stinky on startup too, im going to whip the throttle cover off at the weekend.

Im also only getting 15 to the gallon at the moment too but i guess thats down to the fact that its not a daily driver now, so it tends to get a bit more foot down when i get it out.
