Decided to finally take the plunge and get a new set of 18" alloys to replace my lovely race-look 17's and finish off the Zed's new bodywork. I've been looking at a particular type for some time now but have finally got round to chasing up the details in earnest. Basically it's between these two (I posted these ages ago, but here they are again!;)),the Boss XTT and the ACE C036 Aviator:

They're both now available in an 18's but it's the width fitments that I need advice on.

The Boss is only available in an 8" width fitment.

The ACE is available in either 8 1/2" all round or 8 1/2" front x 9 1/2" rear width fitment. So:

1.Would 8" be too small on the back and would 9 1/2" be too big?

2. The Boss offset is 35 (which I think is ok?) however the ACE (I was told) is 20. Bearing in mind I'm running GTR brakes on the front, would there be clearance issues? Would a spacer solve it?

3. What would be the minimum and the maximum tyre widths I could use on each of these rims, front and back?

I should also say one thing in the Boss XTT wheels favour: it's that I can get them a helluva lot cheaper than the ACE!

Sorry for the questions, I know this keeps coming up, but I can't seem to get my head round the figures! :o

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Leigh.

Yeah...before I knew they were a better price they're the ones that caught my eye first :)

By the way, I should say that my alloys will be up for sale soon if I can get this sorted! ;)

Lol! ;) Sorry, that was directed at anyone else! :D

:) when you put your alloys up for sale I wouldn't mind first dibs on em (depends on price etc). Ta

Do you know how much these wheels will wipe off your top speed?

:)

Seriously wheels with turbine type vanes cause huge drag at very high speeds and those ones look like the intakes on an RB211 jet!

Lol! I never looked at it like that! ;) :D

Although I did read recently about the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren which has got finned turbine-blade alloy wheels which, when combined with wheel well air intakes, cool the brakes. Doubt that'll happen with these but you never know ;) I just thought they looked great when I saw a similar alloy on the Veilside 350Z! :)

Ok, so if the offset on the Boss wheels (which I prefer) is 35 and the Zed needs an offset of 30 on the front, will the difference be able to be corrected somehow? Sorry for my ignorance on this!

Also, with them being 8", what size tyres could I/ should I go up to on the fronts and rears?

Cheers,

Leigh.

At a push Leigh 8.5 on the fronts and you can if you want to go to 10.5 on the rears......;) I did :D

Blimey! Didn't realise I could go that big on the rears mate! :D I bet they look great, though do you find there's any detrimental effect on the handling at all?

I haven't had any probs mate :x: (touch wood) you will find a few on here have 10's mate, I had to use spacers to get mine out cos of the Wide arse :D

Happy hunting bud...:D

Leigh I've had 18 x8.5J fronts and 18 x 10.5J rears for about 60% of my almost 6 year Z ownership (30% in a garage  ) and the handling improved greatly. However don't go bigger than 275 on rears or you'll get rubbing with your car being so low.+ If you go larger than 235 on the front you get rubbing on full lock ,but you gstart to get pritty scarey whitelining. (where you car is pull about by the contures on the Road)

Cheers Mark, some great information there, just what I wanted to know! :)
