Well peeps, i have been playing with some boost jets today and was wondering what the max boost i can run on a standard ECU, the reason why i am asking is because i cant get the boost to go above 10/11psi, and thats with .9 jets. Have also replaced most of the vacum pipes and boost pipes with silicon Pipes (RED OF CORSE). I hope to be gettin a JD chipped ecu very soon, so i should see a better boost, or not as the case maybe. Will i need to change my spark plugs when i get it chipped, if so what do you recomend, (dont want me flame blown out ?).

Have also just got a pair of stainless De Cats/Downpipes from the states, Can't wait to get them on, vvrrooooooooooooooommmmmm, should sound nice with my HKS back box's, will do them when i do the Center bearing next week. :smash:

Also guys/girls i have some new super white H3 bulbs. Are the H3 bulbs the ones on the outside pair of the head lamp cluster or the inside pair of the cluster ? C'os They look a Bar Steward to change and i want to pick the right ones to get out first time.

Thanks

An Upgraded ECU does'nt affect how much boost the jets will give you, it just deals with the fuel and timing maps for the extra boost.

I think standard ECU is mapped to a max of 12psi, but somebody more in the know should confirm this.

your only getting an extra 1 psi (stock is about 9.5 psi), so its very likely you have a boost leak.

Yup....probably a leak.....or a cabbage(sorry been drinking again) :duffer:

When mine were being fitted we struggled to get over 10psi whatever tips we put.

Found a leaking hose...

Jubilee clip on it and Hey Presto :nana2:

Was knocking just over 15psi

Thats what im thinking ? i will check all connections and pipes again tomorrow (if my hands stop bleeding) .?

Well i have spent most of the day looking for leaks, and i cant find any?? have replaced all the boost pipes, and new jublie clips to replace the nissan spring clips. But cant get the boost above 11psi.

Had some help today from ant, And we noticed on his car, on tickover he had a reading of 20, i only have 10 ??

I thinks i need a conzult ASAP to let me know whats going on?? so if someone wants to Conzult me i'm open to offers ?

Ant, thanks for your help today m8, have you warmed up yet, next time bring a coat, and thoes Lycra cycle shorts looked nice in yellow/black ????

How are you measuring the boost? Am assuming that you have an aftermarket boost gauge?

erm, you sure there in the correct hoses?? ;)

theres 2 off each side of the hardpipes, 2 of them just go up to the plenum - make sure youre not in these pipes (you wont be the first if you have :D )

This is the boost guage that i have,? and yes the boost jets are in the right pipes, what should the guage read on tickover in "P".

do you notice much difference in acceleration from stock to when you have fitted the jets? I think you are running safety boost mate

car feels realy flat on safety boost do a ecu check

steve

How do you know if its on safety Boost or not?

a simple way to check for leaks on big and small hoses is let the car idle and spray carb cleaner around all the pipe fittings and tee pieces, iff the rpm rises then you have a leak due to the motor injesting the cleaner

Can't be in safety boost as you would only get 7psi even with boost jets , if you can not find a leak anywhere the only other explanation would be weak or buggered actuators on the turbos , on a car with no leaks 1mm jets should give approx 13.5-14 psi , 0.8s will give 15-15psi, all cars are different but thats a rough guide

its not in safety boost mode, and the ecu says its all clear (55), am taking the car to see a doctor today ????? so will let you know the outcome :-}

Maybe the boost jets are letting air around them? Some are smaller than others. Whack a cable tie or two around the wastegate vac lines where the boost jets are :)

Boost leak! Check the small hoses that go to the throttle bodies under the hard pipes ;) Drivers side goes in from the side, passenger side goes in from the front...

Another common leaking point is the vac hose for the brake/clutch servo - these seem to crack very easily...

sounds like the same problem that I have as im getting 1.8bar boost from 0.8mm jets.

im in no rush to fix though as 0.8 bar is enough in this weather LOL.

whoops mis-type, yeh 0.8 bar. man 1.8 bar would be fun, but probally blow the turbo's up in a day LOL

Just discovered mine was p1ssing air out of the vac hose tonight on top of all the other daily faults!!

Can you imagine life without the Zed? We'd all be soap freaks!
