Hey all, thinking about fitting an apline screen above my current alpine headunit, thus getting rid of the air vents. Once i got this dun i wanna get a PS2 in the car, the slim one. Question is where do u lot have yours? Best place i can think of is the glove box, but i think i'm gonna have to adjust it so that it can fit? Suggestions n ideas people :)

Wud it work, i mean coz the passenger seat slides to let people in the back n everything, wires wud be loose as well in the interior ennit?

I would have thought the boot to be the most logical place, with wireless controllers and/or remote for DVD's...

 

Heat's not so much of a problem with the new ones, they run off a new power supply

Hmm if i have it in the boot, how can i make sure it stays in one place n everything? My subs wont affect the ps2 wud they? Wud wireless controllers work, as there infrared thing wont see the console coz of the seats?

The slim line editions do not come with a cd drawer, but a flip top.

So you need enough room for the top to lift up AND you need to get to the buttons on the front of the ps2.

 

I have mine fitted in the boot, with extended wires and radio controllers and it works a treat.

I tried MANY places - glove box, center box, beside passenger leg in footwell.

I even tok the dash off to see about mounting it flush with that, but the best (and only real) place is as I say.. in the boot. :dance:

if you want the thing removable, get some strips of stick-on velcro. Two strips on the back of the ps2, two on the carpet / boot surrounds etc.. that will make it easily removable without too much trouble.

As i've got a full boot build, I went to the trouble of making a pop-up caddy that the ps2 sits in. When I wanna use it, it pops up slightly, allowing me to turn it on, then it sinks down again flush with the boot floor. The p2 is held into place by tight fitting leather surrounds, so it is still removable, but looks cooler than just being loose in the boot :)

 

The controllers are all radio frequency, so line of sight doesn't matter.

The dvd remote however, if similar to the xbox, IS infra-red, so without some complex mirror design (OR, running an extension from the ps2 round to the front console) it wouldn't work with the ps in the boot (then again... you wouldn't be using the ps2 for dvds would you?)

 

As long as the ps2 isnt mounted directly on or next to the sub, then you shouldn't get a problem (the memory cards dont tend to like strong magnetic fields - apparently).

depending on how loud you are planning on running your sub whilst playing on the ps2 (vibrations wise...)

 

Again, Mines in the boot, off to one side (where the boot expands out slightly) and I've not had a problem with it yet!

N do i have to modify the end by slicing it so it goes on like as if it woz a head unit cable? or can i connect it sumhow to my amp? N the other wire wud jus go to the tv unit i take it, no need for earthing or anything else is there? questions, questions, questions....

Most can do, but if it's a permanent install, you'd be better off taking a live feed from somewhere nearer the unit. This would be a neater solution..

lol - Sk93, where are you??! I think he's the man to ask. My boot install has a seperate live feed direct from the battery. Not a good idea to run off another circuit (eg: boot light) as you may overload it and blow the fuse..

You can get specific power cables for the ps2 slim that you plug striaght into the ps2 from the car wiring loom!

 

Give ICE-Direct a ring (0870 22 00 777) and tell them Ian with the 300zx told you to call (you'll get trade-ish prices if you do) and they can provide you with the converter for about £30

That way, you dont need to:

 

a: have the huge converter hidden away in the car

b: have to keep the wires loose so you can take them out an use them in the house

 

You can get another "ps2 to Tv" lead from the likes of Curry's, Dixon's, Woolworths etc..

 

As for where to connect it, the cable comes with one earth connector, one power connector and one remote switch connector. Depending on your install, I found it best to run a set of 12guage cables from my power distribution block and closest earth point to the ps2. This way, I could use a 20amp fuse (closest fuse to the 13amp house fuse I could find for a distribution block) and not risk blowing any of the other car electronics if something went wrong.

The remote switch connector is the same as those on your amp. When power is recieved at the connector, power is provided to the ps2.

This can be connected straight to the cable that connects to your amps r-con terminal or the power-attenna cable that comes from the head unit.

 

 

The ps2 does appear to draw a nice amount of current, and as I didn't want to run the risk of damaging the other electronics on the car by drawing to much current, I reckon this is the safest way (and easiest to remove should you need to!)

 

If you've only got one amp, the chance of you having a distribution block is rather slim :), but they are only about £15 for a single to double with fuses, and they really will make it safer.

that all depends on your boot layout and if you ever wanna take it out and if you ever want to use your boot for more practical things (like :shock: shopping and luggage!!)

 

Like I said, mines off the the left of the boot, where it widens out slightly.

However, you can just as easily mount it on the actual boot surrounds...

I'm planning to chuck my PS2 in the seat behind the drivers, coz i dont like people sitting behind me, and its ideal coz its easy accessible to open n close etc.. No need to get out of car to get to the boot. U guys mus think im crazy putting it where i said, but mos probably i will chuck it there :)

are you going to mount it actually ON the drivers seat? because the ps2 slim "retains" the dvd in the drive, it can be run at any angle without problems...

actually.. that'd be quite a cool place as you can STILL get peeps in the back without a hastle :)

i bought i proper sony inverter for mine come from the battery and has a box smaller than fag packet with the ps2 lead on other end no big inverter and keep the origanal lead in house, cost me 70 quid but wirht it
