Hoping some of you guys that are more computer literate than me (not difficult!) can help me with this one. I grew up with the old C64 and Amiga and would love to play all the old games again on my PC. I've had a look at the emulators available for download but there always seems to be more than just one type so I'm a bit confused as to what to go for, and when I've downloaded one I can never get it to work (can't seem to find one with a friendly user-interface). Would someone mind putting up a step by step guide that even an idjeet like me can't get wrong as it would be great to play them again. :)

Leigh [fondly reminiscing over Manic Miner, The Last Ninja etc, etc...]

P.S. (I already have Limewire and Edonkey installed if it's easier to download from there?)

I know Peach has loads of stuff like this, give him a shout! :D

Get WinUAE for the Amiga stuff and there are a few good C64 ones. They are not hard to use just the interface's are a bit crummy.

Ill have a look see if I can find something that dont have a virus in it.

I got a speccy emulator, and a mame one with most of the roms, if your interested. Just playing manic miner myself the other day :)

anyone got some Emulators for a chipped Xbox, i have snes and megadrive, just looking for some more

What? Emulators so you can run them on your X-Box?

You need to get the X-Box developers software. Basically the software they use to make games. It is very hard to get hold of now.

Once you have that is it then possible to run your XBox as a PC, but it is a bit more complicated than that.

You will have to have a look on some XBOX forums for the info.

Dave, you don't have the ROM for "Space Pirates" do you? It's a very old wireframe graphics game, but I've been searching for it for years :(

Steve is an arcade classic or Console/home computer version. I have looked through my archives and can not find any records for that arcade game, I went back to 1972.

It was deffo an arcade game Dave. I last played it in about 1984  Have done a number of searches as well :(

* EDIT * It was unusual in that it allowed a 2nd player to join in and play co-operatively. You basically had to protect your cargo (a bunch of triangles in the centre of the screen) from the space pirates. Similar graphics to the original Asteroids  Was a blast :)

i had an Atari 400, Atari 800XL and an Atari STe. God those were the days. Needless to say ive got an emulator for both and hundreds of my old favourites! (thanks to Matty for rescuing them from a ZipDisk! )

Jay, Dave C and Skylinedave, it would be great if you guys could help me out! Can supply discs/postage etc, no problem. Like I said it would be great to have a crack at them again! :)

On a secondary but still relevant point...is there any easy (and in-expensive!)way to view and play through your TV screen? Just a thought...

Leigh.

most modern graphics cards have a TV-OUT port at the back so you can connect straight to your telly (for that 100% authentic feel :D ) - mind you having said that i found that the PC monitor is too sharp which spoils the slightly fuzzy picture of a TV.

most emulators are straightforward to use - STeem is best for the Atari ST and 800WIN+ is best for Atari 800 - are you interested in either of these matey?

Cheers for the info mate! Thinking about it I'll see about the C64 and Amiga first but I reckon it won't be long after that I'll be getting in touch if I get hooked again! ;) :)

I have built a MAME Arcade machine using an original Arcade shell with original TV/Monitor. If you look on ebay you can find all the parts you need. If your going to play these classics, then put down thoses game pads/mice and play them how they were meant to be played...................standing up, ashtray to your right and little micro switches for games like hypersports.... :hyper:

Thought I'd have another crack at getting one of these emulators running so:

1.I got hold of an Amiga Kickstart ROM and Workbench 3.1

2.Made sure I have the latest version of Direct X

3.Downloaded WinUAE from http://www.winuae.net/ and go through the installation...however, it does not automatically detect the Kickstart ROM's (1.3 and 3.1) and I'm left with this screen (see attachment)

Anyone mind guiding me through what I need to do next as I'm a bit lost and don't want to start a fire by pressing the wrong button!?

Leigh

have you selected your Kick ROM? If so then click on the select disc image button and load the game.

Sorry Stu, you must bang you're head on the wall when you hear guys like me! I downloaded the Kick ROM and unzipped it...when you say selected it do you mean in the Hardware configuration bit? As when I select another KickROM from the list it brings up a box saying "I need the following ROM etc" so the one's I have don't appear to be being detected.

Ok, got it recognising the two ROM's I've got but can't seem to get a game loaded! :slap: I'll have another fiddle with it! :D

YAY! Managed to get my Luddite head round the problem and now got "Shadow of the Beast" playing on my PC! Great looks, terrible game but what the hey, it works!!! Now need to get the equipment to connect the laptop to the TV and a decent joystick! Any thought fella's? I'm now very over-excited! :D :D :D
