Hi guys. I don't yet own a 300zx but am pretty sure I soon will do if I can get good answers to these seemingly silly questions. First of all will I fit in it and be able to drive it? I am six foot eight and too close to 20 stone to be comfy and so need a car I can get into and drive without a problem. Second, what sort of fuel economy are we looking at. It would be a manual turbo model I would be having and have a decent length journey to work and bacvk every day. I'm not a fast driver normally (hhhhhmmmm) and do try to conserve fuel. Of course there are times when the silly part of the brain takes over but that is the price you have to pay.

Thanks very much for all the help and advice you guys can give and I hope to be a regular on this forum soon.

ime 19 stone+ and six foot three and i fit with plenty of room mate, but what i would say mate is you being six foot eight i would consider a auto cos once you plant your foot you would find it easier to let it rest. on fuel economy, i can get my ride down to single numbers on the mpg stakes when ime playing but iff you keep it off boost you could expect mid to high 20,s or even beter on the motorway in o/d. wellcome to the forum mate

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. Its good to know that I'll fit but I really need to test for myself so may be going to have to waste the time of some poor selling person. Couldn't have an auto though. I like autos in big comfy cruisers but, for me, in a sports car it has to be a manual. I have also read somewhere that the auto drops hp and the resultant increase in torque over the manual is not worth it. Fuel sounds OK, my Honda is not giving me much more than that, especially when the full 9000rpm is used!

Hi Tom

The auto and manwell performance are virtually identical - some say the manual is marginally quicker to 60 but the auto quicker to 100. But it is a pretty close call.

I drove both versions before buying and found nothing between them. I only bought an auto because that particular car was the best example I saw.

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Yeah theres miles of headroom in the 300, I'm 6'2, in contrast if I look up in my 200 I can lick the ceiling :D Probably.

I know about the engine and tranny options but what were the body styles? I read somewhere that it came in different lenghts and seat configurations. Its only the turbo models I'm interested in by the way.

2+2 (small rear seat) and SWB(Short Wheel Base (2 seater)).

The SWB is rarer and Jap import only.

There are Slick top, just a normal roof.

T-Top which is the the most common,

2+2 Seater and 2 seater.

All UK cars are Twinturbo 2+2. If you see anything ones which are not 2+2. T-Top or NA, it is an import; incase you are looking for a UK car.

Tom, at 6'8" I reckon you will be pushed. I'm 6'4" (17 stone) and its a snug fit. Every time I get in and out of the car I wack those bloody control colums that stick out either side of the instrument cluster. That said, with the seat right back its fine once your in. Don't let me put you off - try one, there a bloody great car to drive.

I'm used to getting in a nd out of tight cars as my current is a little on the difficult side (Honda delSol). Trying one is the only sure way I suppose. Anyone fancy letting me have a sit-in near my place of residence?????

I'm not a FB!! Just bloody big. I go to the gym 3 times a week for 4 hours a go. Well, I did till i moved house 2 months ago....... :D

I really don't fancy the auto idea, I like changing gear too much. Fuel economy is not really That big a problem. I have about a 20-25 mile a day trip so its not too bad. I suppose its the price you have to pay for a fine machine.

One other thing. Anyone fancy a swap for a 1993 BMW 540i V8 Auto by any chance?!?!?!?!

Tell me about the BM

Hi Tom,

What's the 540 like on fuel please mate?

What MOT and tax has it?

Is it leather

Does it have the multi function steering wheel,

Does it still have the Nikasil block, or has it been changed?

Might possibly be interested in a swap, maybe.... though it's a bit older than what I really want,

Cheers mate

Steve

ALSO, BIGMINCEY, are you saying you can do a 20 mile trip to work, and back again, 6 times a week, for £20 (240 miles on £20, or is that £20 per day??)

Cheers mate

This a 1993 E34 BMW 540i V8 Automatic saloon. Diamond Black metallic with rear spoiler and a black leather interior. It has electric windows, electric mirrors and an electric sunroof. For comfort, front arm rests are fitted and the steering wheel is adjustable. A trip computer is fitted as are front fog lamps. An alarm and immobiliser are fitted as is remote central locking. It has a 6 disc Pioneer surround dound CD, Radio and Cassette player had recently been installed professionally. The car rides on 17 inch Mille Miglia Shadow Chrome alloy wheels which are in excellent condition and has red brake calipers. It has had all the recall work done by previous owners, the last of whom were local to me. It has a good service history with mostly main dealer stamps. Generally the car is in very good condition with only the expected wear and tear of a car this age and mileage (115,000). New front brake discs are required on the front due to a slight warp. This IS NOT an MOT problem more a comfort one. The brake discs will be supplied with the car if not fitted beforehand, depending on time. It starts first time, runs smooth and, when required, will shift at a fairly indecent speed. Fuel economy is not too bad as I have seen over 30 mpg. I am unsure of the MOT finish date but will make sure that the car is MOT before handover to new owner. I would also tax it for 6 months. Unfortunately, no multifunction wheel as they were'nt invented then! Pics can be seen at :-

Legrath : Yep all done under the warranty by BMW.

Stevepud : Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it. Trouble is I can't see myself being in London or Kent in a very long time.

Bigmincey : Hope you're OK and don't scare yourself in the 300! :D Thanks for the offer of help, but you might live to regret it!

no worries, good luck in your search
