When I picked up my Z TT it had new Michelin MXF Sport 225/50R16's.Now,2000 miles later most of the centre section of both rear tyres has worn right down.Still some rubber on the edges. The pressures are 36.I know I've had many amazing burnoffs but is this kind of wear normal? Also is there a harder wearing tyre reccomended for the Z32?

Your probably right, sooner or later you have to pay for these pleasures...I still remember when my Nissan Primera company car driven hard would get 40,000 miles from a set of tyres so 2000 miles from a pair of performance tyres was a bit of a shock.

Performance tyres are usually a softer compound for improved grip in cornering and braking etc. Hence they will wear quicker than regular tyres (like those on your old Primera).

Also it sounds like the pressure could be a little high if they are worn down the centre - although this is a trait with wider tyres anyway. You can buy harder compound tyres (Falken for example) but you will sacrifice grip, especially in the wet.

My advice - stick with decent performance rubber and enjoy. Feck the tyre wear it's just part of the ZX package :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

but you will sacrifice grip, especially in the wet.

I dont think thats gonna be a problem.........

The lucky gits in Oz :D

Help, where has my rear tyre rubber gone?

its helping other road users by sticking itself to the surface :D

Hiya krooz, had the same prob when i got my Z.....put two new bridgestones on and they only lasted 3 months....Discovered at great expence that it was only the tracking out on the rears...I know people will say that this would give you wear on the tyre edge of the tyre but mine also had wair acroos the full tyre width.....

Anyway give the trackin a go>>>

I bought some Firestone tyres in Japan because they use a harder compound tread (well, like a normal tyre's tread) they're doing well so far I have about 3000 miles on them and there's about 50-60% tread left on them. Not sure if they're available here though - not needed to look yet! My tyres are 235/45 & 255/40 on 17in wheels but there were many more sizes available. The grip is OK, but then I don't really push too hard, if you drive you're car to the limit you may notice the difference more than me.

Have a look at TireRack for detailed reviews of tyres including their tread wear measurements. As a final bit of advice, stick with 'conventional' looking tread patterns as given similar tread compounds, tend to last longer, and wear more evenly than highly uni-directional / asymetrical ones.

Japanese tyres and UK road surfaces are not a good combination.

Japanese tyres are a harder compound than UK, so when you are on wet roads the grip is non existant (ok you can drive miss daisy, but is that the reason you bought the high powered sports car?).

worn out centre sections also suggest over inflation as well as too many burnouts
