welcome to the club mate!

most of the guys on here use Optimax. not sure whether it would be necessary for an N/A tho (unless its heavily modded). you may be able to save money and keep with standard unleaded.

:D Snap.......to the above

optimax only mate if import!! as they use 100 ron over there so the closest u can get the better!! optimax is 98

true, unless he's got an ECU set up for UK fuel. optimax definately the safest bet if unsure tho.

What about the FUEL CAT?

95ron in and 99ron out, no need for optimax

Actually, it makes sense to use Optimax all the time regardless of what car you've got. Allegedly, providing you drive to a speed not a throttle position, you'll save more money in fuel consumption than you spend on the price of the petrol.

Not done the figures, but I believe it :)

yep. It's a real 98 octane - this is a measurable and legal claim unlike snakeoil pots which claim to do the impossible (Colt may have been told "95ron in and 99ron out" but this is not repeat not possible and is therefore almost certainly a complete lie). I've got a Chemistry O-level, trust me

I'm using regular unleaded in my (Jap obviously) NA with no problems.

What problems could it cause?

nothing really, just a slightly greater risk of detonation under the right (or rather wrong) circumstances. possibly a small drop in performance???

thought u couldnt use those fuel cats on turbo charged engines over 2500cc !! it says so in jap preformance on the ad !!

I run the N/A always with Optimax, as it was imported from the motherland it will be setup for 99-100 RON. Weather you N/A is modified or not, the nearest you can get to this higher octane, the better the engine will run "fact"

Yes turbo cars are a different kettle of fish with the timMing and detonation issues, but you have an N/A

If i can't tell the difference and my NA engine seems happy on regular unleaded, is there any point putting the fancy stuff in? Am I risking any sort of mechanical disaster?

It all depends on how you drive.

If you regularly take the car to the rev limiter then you are risking running the engine lean under high stress conditions.

This tends to melt spark plugs which in turn punch holes in your very hot pistons.

This is the horror story end of the scale (of which I have had far too much experience) the other end of the scale is the car handles it just fine with only minor damage taking place over a long time.

:slap: Please tell me you haven't fallen for that scam....... :x: :x:

Was really looking into one gulp

this forum is like gold dust

I ran my UK TT on unleaded until I changed to a more aggressive chip. Since then have run only on Optimax. Would recommend it regardless of N/A vs TT as my fuel economy has improved tremendously. I'm sure the extra cost is saved by the extra miles at the end of the day.

Surely the use of optimax or any higher octane fuel is only worthwhile if the car is equipped with a 'knock sensor'. Does the N/A have one???
