Has anyone fitted a PC in their car as I want to know how to connect it to teh speakers and what did you use to change the power supply?

And do you know if you can get a retractable VGA touchscreen?

Hi Deve8uk

I use a laptop and docking station with a 12 to 240 inverter and to link it the speakers I use the AUX input on the haed unit.

As for the touchscreen I couldnt find one that I wanted so I cut the air vents out and mounted it in the center console.

Why on earth would you need a PC in your car?

Why on earth would you need a PC in your car?

Why do you need 500 bhp, you do'nt, it's just nice to have ;) :smash:

With an PC you can.

Play DVD, CD, MPG, AVI, GAMES and update it all.

You can also plug it into engine mannagement software that is far more powerfull that certain units.

It can be passward protected so no fooker can nick your car even if they get in.

It "dep[ending on card" plays and handle all sound and video media better.

Can have email,

Can run routfinder GPS

Can store 100000000000s of tunes and vides depending on hard drive.

loads more but cant think of any.

OH for got the main one.

Its way cheaper to get than all the individual bits and peices and its in 1 box

U could have a web cam for your rear view mirror :p & record when u want

I use it as a diagnostics and have all my music on it, so there is no need to have loads of cds in the car

and also as chris says its nice to have.

Eddie

Hey Eddie.

Thats a top job you done there mate.

Oh forgot. you can have a hidden web cam in the car and when some toe rag trys to steal it, it will take pics of the fookers and mail them.

I just worked out that I can buy what I need for

£459.

Now thats gota be better than your normal ICE systems, plus I get to play any game I want, Play any film I want, listen to any music I want and I get TV and Radio and can email, keep check on here and watch porn on the go lol

How you gonna use the net on the go ? through mobile ?

How you gonna use the net on the go ? through mobile ?

but my mobile connect to a PC and uses windows CE and has modem tecknowegy (dyslexia, be buggered if I know how to spell that)

only 56K aand fooking expencive

Cheers guys it has taken a while to get it the way i want.

Thats a pretty good price if thats with the touchscreen.

As you say it will do just about anything you want all you need to do is to add the right software or/and hardware. As for the reversing camera if the screen has another input you could use that.

hope it all goes well and you get it sorted

Eddie

Just a thought, but I dont want people seeing that and trying to hack into teh car for it.

Ye that is one thing about a screen that cant be hidden the risks of the theiving little s**ts breaking in.

But the laptop is hidden under a false floor above the ecu so there is no chance they can see it and with it being touchscreen there are no clues that there is a pc in the car.

Eddie

Ahhh Haaa

HDD's don't take kindly to bumps remember.

My car is my escape from computers, closest it gets to a PC is my laptop slung in the back.

Hey Eddie - how do you control the PC? Wireless mouse and keyboard kept in the back of the seat pockets? Or does it happen from the buttons on the front of the monitor? How do you change tunes while you're driving without taking your eyes of the road?

Its touch screen.

so you touch the screen instead of using a mouse.

change tunes the same you would on any PC

As for the reversing camera if the screen has another input you could use that.

Just make sure it has an image inverter otherwise you are looking at a picture where left is right and right is left .... ;)

I've recently been in a big US-stylee 4x4 which had a little tft incorporated into the rearview mirror (aftermarket item). Really cool because it displayed images from cameras mounted in the front and back ... The car didn't have parking-assistance-beepy-thingy and the cams really worked a treat.

CheerZ,

I have a similar setup to eddie - A 7" Touchscreen VGA Monitor in Dash, connected to a Mini-itx custom built PC. Using Mediacar software for frontend.

Uses a Opus 90W In-car PSU. Which works has a votage regulator and shutdown controller.

GPS Navigation, GPRS & WIFI Communications, MP3, DVD, Movies, Internet, Email and looking to purchase conzult next.

Its also connected up to a 1400 watt amp, and a mini-keyboard under the passenger seat.
