How much prep work is involved in fitting the standard replacement boot spoiler from the Zcentre?

Is it just a case of spraying it and sticking it on or is there more to it? I can't be arsed at the moment with too much filling and messing around trying to get it on.

The OE spoiler needs removing carefully.....

then the fibreglass new one needs prepping and painting. Level of work depends on the overall condition of the replacement item. Usually just a quick smoothing down and spraying is all. This needs glueing to the tailgate. Job done....

Mine had a few imperfections which needed filling and the glue wouldn't hold for the first 2 attempts, but my local body shop charged me around under the £200 mark IIRC to do it all. Possibly a bit expensive, but they are pretty good, local and lent me a car for 2 days so I could still get to work.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Jock & Baggins have done a couple of these IIRC. I'm sure that one of them will give some pointers.

Got one of these myself. Got the tailgate off the car at the moment. Removed the old spoiler carefully (alright just yanked it off ;) ) and there is lots of holes. Do these need filling? And what do I use for sticking the new spoiler down with? I think it's a z-centre item.

bump.... the spoiler i have is very good condition but is very shiny ... do i need to rub this down then prime it??

also where do you guys get the spray paint mixed into an aerosol????

thanks

you need to flat spoiler down with 1000 grit wet and dry, make sure all shiney bits are gone, then prime it,2/3 coats should be ok, then flat down again just to make sure its smoooth with no dust or gritty bits in it then paint to your prefered colour. couple of options for sticking it down you can use 3m double sided tape or tiger seal which is a bit like silicon sealer but stronger. t/cut all of area where spoiler will sit this will clean paintwork so that glue or tape can get a good hold. you can get mixed paint in cans from most motor factors even halfords do it these days along with a range of custom paints, just get paint code from car and they will make it up for you.
