Hi, just bought a brand new jap import 1993 300zx TT Auto in Black, with the following modifications. Any help you guys can give would be really appreciated.

Car has:-

HKS Variable Valve ontroller - No instructions

Panasonic CN DV3020 Sat Nav

Pioneer Carrezzoria TV & Display unit and several ariels inside but thefted Display unit.

Maruhama R350 Radar Detector (no instructions)

TechTom CM100 display

Strut Brace

Stainlesssteel Exhausts

In dash DVD player with missing front panel.

Any ideas on the above?

Also, there is a very strong smell of petrol when starting from cold, which goes away after 10 mins or so, concerned about this.

Tried to get new bulbs to replace the crappy standard ones, but don't fit.

Cruise only works to 110km, and need to get speedo changed to MPH.

Need a decent set of Alloys.

MPG really awful, 20mpg at best.

Fanatastic to drive, as you all probably know!

Also, is there an easy alarm to install, or do I need to go the professional route?

Cheers in advance for any help, Roy.

you'll be lucky to get anymore than 20mpg lol check all fuel pipes tighten every clip on them under the hood or get a fuel line kit off smithy trader on here

welcome Roy.

HKS valve controller - dont play with it unless you know what youre doing. ;) these generally need setting up by professionals.

As DJTomo says the fuel smell is generally down to a loose/cracked pipe and isn't a rare problem. best to check the pipes asap but dont worry about it too much.

Sounds like its best to take the car to a car electronics place to see what they can do about your myriad of head units (and install alarm - Cat 1 is best)!!! Instructions for your head units should be downloadable from the internet.

Bulbs - are you talking about side repeaters? If so then one or two of the traders on here do good prices on ones that DO fit! ;)

Check the FOR SALE section for alloys up for sale.

I think cruise does only work up to a certain speed but mines buggerd and i wouldnt use it anyways :)

Also, any ideas what sort of BHP it's been uprated to with the mods?

oooohhh, an extra 5-15bhp over standard depending on how the valve controller has been set up. if youre looking to tweak it up a bit more, get an aftermarket air filter, boost jets and jwt chip - cost you under £200 if you know where to look ;)

Thanks for the info guys, I was searching for info on LPG kits for the TT as I often go back and fore to Wales (500 mile round trip). I can't see that anyone has done it, but apparently lpg kits have come on a long way and do work on Turbo's. I'm prepared to buy the DIY kit, if anyone is interested in helping, would be greatly appreciated. It may be a waste of money and screw up the car, but I'm going to do it for the hell of it in summer! If you see a burnt out wreck on here for sale, you know it went wrong.

Also, if anyone wants the DVD nav, in dash DVD and Display stuff, give me a shout.

Cheers Roy.

Not the side lights, the headlights. R

hmm unless youve got shares in Shell I wouldnt use the Z for such long journeys - the fuel cost isn't the only consideration to take into account as im sure youre aware.

As far as LPG kits go, well TBH we had a bit of a laugh about them a while ago when someone else suggested it, but you could prove everyone wrong. If you're up for it then go for it - we'd all be interested to see how the conversion went, and what the MPG, BHP, 0-60 etc. figures would be afterwards.

Headlights-wise, a HID conversion is getting popular at the moment - one of the traders does these... and post up the bits youre interested in selling in the For Sale area - it'll get more coverage there.

...oh and the best £20 you'll ever spend on the Z... subscribe to 300zx.co.uk

I had the same smell of petrol on my car on startup, put up with it for a while but can highly recommend Smithy's fuel line kit as well.

Hi Mate and welcome.

Smell of petrol. Common I am afraid on older cars. Think we have all been there.

Can I point you to the best solution, goto Smithy's Place on this site and buy his fuel line kit.

Will get rid of all the old connectors in one go and sort your problem. Its also a top notch piece of kit, and even I fitte it in about 20 mins.

Hi Roy

Petrol smell when cold is usually where the rubber hose has contracted in the cold causing fuel to leak at the hose joints. Easiest thing to to is go round and tighten up all hose clamps with a screwdriver. There are loads around the filter (l/h side, bolted near suspension strut) and one or two under the throttle link cover (plastic thing with "3000 twin turbo" written on it, centre top of engine).

20mpg is a fairly normal average, be happy with that as under heavy driving I've seen mine drop to 14-ish  I have averaged almost 25 on a long m-way run at a steady 90 though.......

It's been said that j-spec headlights are crap. If you can afford it, do the HID conversion (Outlander in traders section do them and they're fekking excellent  ). Otherwise if you can't stretch to that, convert your dipped beam to the UK spec fitting (do a search on the subject) and buy uprated H3 bulbs (eg Osram Super +30%). Halfords lists the wrong bulbs anyway - UK cars are H3 dipped and H1 main.

Oh yes, and don't forget the £20 to subscribe :D (honestly, it's the best £20 you'll spend on your Z - you'll save that easily when buying from traders here)

All the best

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Hi Roy

I can also sing the praises of the HID conversion from Mark at Outlander - he will also be able to sort you out with an alarm (I got a clifford Cat 1 from him).

Cheers

Jeremy
