just wondered what everyone's opinions are on replacing the stock oil cooler for a larger aftermarket one on a 93 t/t manual.??? worth it ??

Featured Replies

I think they are worth doing, altho if you have a uk car, the oil cooler is nearly twice as big as the Jspec.

cheerz, mickey

this has been around for ages but i'm on the fence as i reckon japan is just as hot an cold as blighty perhaps even more so at the extremes so i'm gonna get a conzult plug in the laptop do some runs and monitor the box oil temp....then lend it to a uk spec auto driver to do the same...truth will out...:)

i have a manual import t/t and have just obtained a 19 row setrab oil cooler and am debating wheter to fit it or sell it to a mate with an auto supra.????????

Japan is not big on long straight fast roads though. That's why the Euro models had the larger coolers.

so is it worth fitting then?? or should i sell it and keep the standard jap one??

i can go along with that...it may be we have more m-way dual carriage class roads...maybe they just thought UK drivers would thrash em more....?....:D

Get a larger oil cooler on your Import engine and auto gearbox is one of the more important mods you can do IMHO to a zed!

You might want to plumb in an autobox cooler!

I am unsure if you could fit in a sandwich plate for an auxillary oil cooler, but to be truthful the NA engine is not under as much strain temp or otherwise so it would not really need an engine oil cooler!

any extra cooling on a zed is always a good thing, i had the same oil cooler on my zed and mine was a UK manwell TT, get it fitted lol

Euro models were rated for doing 155 near continuous on the autobahn whereas Japan home market models were limited to 112mph so were never expected to need that much cooling. Euro water rad also has much more cooling in it. Same reason the Euro / UK ones have a diff oil cooler on as well.

Exactly - In Europe/UK we drive much harder and faster over longer distances than they do in the USA or Japan. It's nothing to do with the climate/ambient temperatures etc.

Hence all ZXs destined for Europe and UK spent some time on the dyno running at full speed (155mph) before leaving the factory. We also have the high speed HICAS, which is more geared up to our road conditions.

Uprating oil coolers and rad etc is no doubt a beneficial excercise on any imported car.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
