Hi Karl!

Don't think anyone has done a hydraulic one simply because there isn't enough space to mount the unit. I think TonyC and Cos have done a similar thing (not hydraulic thought - and in Cos's case I've even seen a baseball bat holding up his bonnet ...) I have seen a Zed with a hydraulic tailgate though - quite interesting but only feasable when you've replaced the standard spoiler (which weighs as much as South Africa) with a fiberglass jobbie.

Sorry if this isn't any help but thought I'd share what I knew.

I reakon KarlosG just means gas struts like on the boot.... doubt he means a full blown hydraulic suspension type setup.......

Karlos, my old Rover 800 had good struts, (only car I owned with gas struts)

When you just released the catch, the bonnet practically went up on it's own, and then locked in place...

You had to pull it down a bit, then release it and pull it all the way down to close it.... (I still have them too, as I was going to use them on my CRX, but will now try to find time to put them on the Z...)

Try a Rover dealer, they cant be that expensive... or ebay

BMW struts

brand new Jag struts

OOH OOH OOH ELECTRIC AUTO LIFTERS!!!

yep thats what i mean guys , gas struts to hold the bonnet open like alot of car have as the bonnet stays are soooooooooo annoying !!!! any ideas ??

Like pud said "rover 800" we have a rover825 you just lift the bonnet rease lift the bonnet and it stops up on its own, good idea I suppose, cause mine nearly came off the catch in the wind the other day, Rover p[robably did it because of the weighty long bonnets and the old farts that drive them have feeble grips!!

I am developing this at the moment with all brackets required

Markz , im defo interested in getting some sort of gas struts to hold the bonnet up , please can u let me how ur gettin on.

Thanks

Karl

New Asta Gsi turbo's have some very nice bonnet lifts that your after there very chrome and not to big :D

at least thats what car i think I saw them on because Im going to get some

I presume the same way you was going to fit anyother lifts?

just saw them fitted to a rover 200 the once,,

and he deff said they were from a new astra gsi ;)

Vectra struts are good - nice and thin if memory serves.

But where to mount them is definately a big question... I'm not even sure if there's enough room to get away with it in a decent fashion :/

Astra, Vectra, or Sigma. I could setup a group buy for these struts. Find out which ones would do the job and let me know.

Looked into doing this and basically forget standard type struts as there is no-where for them to sit in the closed position!!

So have ordered a pair of vectra hinges and struts and gonna give this a try!-still not going to be an easy mod though-think plenty of grinder/welder use is the order of the day!but we'll see :smw:

I was talking to Slick Pete at the pod on 10th april and he has already sorted this out and knows which ones to get and where they fit :hyper:

suggest you get in touch with him :slap:
