The brakes on me zed feel a bit wooden to say the least. Is this normal, are they getting on a bit now?. Do any of you guy's know of a good & simple brake upgrade? Has anyone had one fitted? Where should I look & how much am I lookin to pay to stop me scaring the missus half to death.

I think it's fairly normal, that. :D

Mine are stock at the moment, so I'm not an expert, but things to consider are getting braided brake lines, and upgrading to Skyline brakes (R33?).

I think quite a few people here have gone for Bremos, but I presume that's a more expensive route.

Can't halp with prices I'm afraid, but give it 30 mins or so and someone will!

Very nice car you got there Spinksy.

Whats type is the rear spoiler BTW?

Grahams.

Spinksy

you could upgrade the pads and fluid which is a quick easy and effective mod until you can afford to fit the brembo or R33 upgrade

check the frequently asked questions or do a search on brake upgrade i have gone for

a 310mm disc upgrade which allowed me to keep the standard ( very good OE calipers with racing mintex pads same as fitted on wrx scoobys with just a bracket being required se 3G brakes web site i got the font discs with anodised bells and anodise brackets or about 750 quid if i remember which is about 1200 quid cheaper than brembos and not a kick in the a**e of the perfomance

Thanks for the comments Graham. The spoiler is a Viper from the Z-Centre.

If you check out my ride pics, you'll see she's got the viper front as well.

:)

the cheapest "upgrade" you can do is to clean and service your calipers (which as you rightly say are getting on , and prob have 10-12 yrs of road sh1t on them), new pads are next, SS brake lines, 3g grooved disks, then upwards to the full brembo kits mentioned above.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised by how much difference a service, new fluid and pads will make tho. HTH

I second Jock's advice.

Simplest brake upgrade is the 3G slotted brembo disc conversion - around £250 IIRC. Although the Mintex pads supplied by 3G last 5 minutes ;)

I bought a set of Stillen Metal Matrix pads from Mike Feeney @ MJP (See traders section) for £70 inc VAT and delivery and they work very well with the slotted Brembos.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

semi metallic pads are a very good start, also brake lines and Master Brake Cylinder brace give you more confidence.

As Jock says though, check your calipers are working to their full potential and that none of the pistons are stuck.

Skyline kits are £500-£600 and offer bigger calipers and disks.

Aftermarket kits like AP, Stoptech, Brembo will be around £1700 +

As has been said service calipers, replace brake fluid to 5.1 and make sure the system is bled properly, and uprate pads I use EBC green stuff. Did all this to my zed and the brakes are now VERY good, and it didn't cost much either.
