Right - I've got a UK spec TT with a faulty speedo cluster and need to sort myself out with a speedo reading before I have a run in with the plod...

I realise I have a few ideas options open to me and was wondering if anyone else had chosen a particular solution over the others.

Here are my suggestions

1) Buy new/second hand UK spec cluster

2) Buy J-Spec cluster and convert

3) Buy some aftermarket electronic wizard box which gives me a digital speed readout, 0-60 times, etc.

This is what I think about each idea

1) Difficult to source s/h part, OEM replacement is expensive

2) Possibly a good option - how do I convert it though? Any caveats?

3) Would be nice to have a digital reading and some extra toys but I would like to have all my dash gauges working. Also - which unit to go for?

Suggestions anyone?

What is your speedo doing? As mine does loads of weird shit and i have recently found out that it is a speed sensor, it never reads correct MPH and normally stops or reads 110mph when stationary!! Impressive but annoying!!

Id shop around for a Uk set if you can bud, alot of the converters for the jap specs fail and cause all sorts of probs ( hicas, power steering etc).

I looked into the possibility of getting an aftermarket speedo, but I wanted one to go in the clocks, couldnt find one.

It used to work for an indeterminate amount of time then flip all the way over to 180mph and stay there until I switched off the engine. Now it just flips straight there. Jeff had a look at it when I had some work done a while back and he reckons the speed sensor is ok.

You can convert a J-spec cluster fairly easily by replacing a resistor on the speedo circuit board- that's what I've done to mine.

But if you can find a set of UK clocks that'll be the easiest and most elegant solution.

Have you taken your clocks out to see if it's just a poor connection?

LOL here, have a pinch of salt ;)

See if you can borrow a Road Angel 2 off somebody and compare the MPH readings between it and your clock?

your clocks are doin the same as minre were, I thought speed sensor at first but have fitted another speedo and problem solved.

All sorted now! A bad connection was to blame.

In that case I claim my first successful diagnosis of somebody else's problem! :D
