**URGENT** Help with removing the Crank Pulley Bolt....Please

As above, I'm totally stuck, I just cant seem to find the best way to release it.

I've read through the service manual, and I don't wana remove the starter motor, I've got the print out of the 60K Service Schedual, and cant seem to work out how he says that you wrap one of the belts around the rear of the pulley, and onto the bracket of the alternator!?

So if anyone knows of a better way, please let me know, otherwise this is a job stopper at the mo.

Thanks in advance.

take to starter out and shove a big flat blade in to the ring gear go on you know it make sense !!! :slap:

or make sure you have a decent socket and t bar and use a big hyde mallet give it a few sharp hits (the T bar) done the trick for me on an auto

easy/dirty trick:

use a socket wrench with a long handle of at least 60cm (or extend a standard one using a strong bar which fits over the handle) and manually turn the pulley clockwise until the handle/bar rests against the left side of the swaybar/chassis.

now unplug the PTU (or better: remove all sparkplugs) and start the engine..let it turn over 1 or 2 times and the bolt will be loose.

I've used this trick several times and it works like a charm. :)

Note: You might want to wrap the handle/bar in a towel or rag, so it can't do any damage when it slams against the swaybar.

Thanks guys. Yeah I forgot to say that it's an auto

Have sorted it now, my dad came up and sugested that we brace a piece of wood against the pulley, and then hit the T bar with a mallet..... that did the trick :D

Bolt out, and pulley off, now I have another problem.............

I have three rusted and seized bolts holding the lower cam belt cover. So I cant get at them to remove the cover..... any ideas???

TIA again.

As in above diag. I cant see them wotjout the use of a mirror, so drilling them doesn't seem much of an option at the mo.

Antmore sugestions?

TIA

are they rounded off? think I had the same prob managed to get an imperial socket that was slightly smaller and tap it over the bolt then remove it

They were just totally rusted!! Considering that the water pump and other bits have been replaced in the past, I'm very surprised as to how rusted these are.

Anyway, after another break, and a little norishment, I've had another go at them, and they are now out, with a little gentle tap :smash: :smash: !! ;)Looks like a trip to my local Nissan dealer to get some replacements.

Timing belt is now off, the next job is to get the inlet cam sprocket off

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated

the likes of crank pully bolts have got to be (shocked off) with a air gun and impact socket, ive never been a fan of holding the ring gear teeth for ovious reasons or hitting a socket or ring spanner with a mallet.soft alloy and knuckel skin dont take kindly to sharp blows with a steel ringee and hammer

Thanks for that, but when you haven't go the likes of an air gun or impact wrench, there aint a lot of choice, but we'll see in the morning. :D

long bar and turn crank starter over is the best method

as dicribed above in lymon's reply.

have done this many times b4 but you realy need

an inpact socket! you must alsu protect the sorounding

parts (ie rad etc)

Dave, what you needed for xmas was a strap wrench mate-best thing I ever bought for holding pulleys etc without damage!

If you get to my neck of the woods your welcome to borrow it as you gotta hold sprockets again to refit em'!
