Anyone know of any company or person who can refill/recharge my aircon on my zed.

I Live in hampshire so someone close would be good...Ive spoke to some companys round here any they just want to rip me off by saying my system needs a total r134a conversion and im looking at up to £300+.

I know people on here have had there's done alot cheaper than that...so any help would be appreiciated....

When I asked for quotes from a company in Bolton, they said about £70. It would be cheaper but that costs involves draining out the old fluid and disposal of it.

The stuff they put in can just be used as a replacement.

I went through the same agony myself, with conflicting advice from many suppliers. I got told that I needed the whole lot replaced to be compatible with r134a - at a cost of about £400. I now believe this is NOT true (see Paul C's post mentioned above). However due to my uncertainty at the time I kept looking & found somewhere that did the R12 drop-in substitute for about £100 incl VAT. (North of Swindon - a bit far from you!). I found them through sheer perseverence, asking each place who couldn't help me to suggest someone who could.

Along the way a 'fridge expert' told me loss of gas indicates abnormal leaks in the system (true in fridges, but NOT in cars - it is normal to re-gas after a few years).

Before PaulC posted, I used Mark IV Air Conditioning in Langley 01753 512747. £76.38 incl VAT in 2003. And yes, it was just a drop in replacement with fresh lube/oil - all designed and tickety-boo. Changing all the seals etc is just a way of hiking the price.

anyone know of someone in the southend area that can sort this out? havent had gas in mine for over a year

Drop in replacement on mine 3+ years ago for £80 outside my office and still going strong. R416 or 426 something that sounds like that but defo not the 134a stuff in current cars. The zed system runs at really high pressure and the new stuff isnt right for it without serious mods as it needs even higher pressures. The drop in works fine as mine has proved so far and no seals changed no receiver drier changed etc.

all R134a systems run at higher pressures - which is why you only put in 80% of the origional weight of refrigerant.

it works fine ;)
