Hi all, after speaking to a few members at the last meet at northamton about a dyno day just throught id see about what sort numbers would be up for trying their Zed's on a dyno.

i have spoke to a local company called SUPERCHIPS, where i used to work who are up for it about febuary time.

its a rolling road dyno, so drive on strap it down and off you go, prices are somewhere around £30 to £50 per run but thats to be confirmed.

What do you think ???

Superchips  They've got a bit of ermmmm, a, ermmm, reputation(?) on the 300ZX ;)

yes and no, they still chip the 300zxtt but a few people dont agree with their set up they use.

This dyno shoot out day will be just that, just a power run if any one wants to make any adjustments then they have to do out side and not on the dyno.

i wouldnt touch them TBH, same as most on here i would imagine. THOR is a trader on this site & with their reputation i think most would prefer to use them :)

please dont think im slagging off THOR caus im not but ive heard they have poped a few engines just doing power runs. not sure if thats true or not.

i only posted this caus you dont have to take wheels off and set up the car to run, its just easyer thats all.

please tell me if im being stupid or not, im only younge. :-)

David nothing wrong with showing enthusiasm, The problem is as soon as you mention the word superchip people cringe for very good reasons , As paul has said we have a trader on the site offering Dyno sessions and cheaper, as regards to cars blowing up on Dyno's that could happen anywhere and I would probably put money on it that at some point or another every Dyno outfit would have had a car go bang

I think Superchips' rep preceeds them, but if its just the rolling road and they dont get to actually touch the cars I cant see any harm. Not that I really want to strap mine onto any rolling road, but might when the time is closer.. David, Jamie might though, and its one more car.....Have you fixed your smoking yet?

When I was at Thor they battered the hell out of my car - but thats surely what happens on any dyno/RR - unless youre only interested in power/torque half-way up the range! Guys at Thor are the dog's danglers tho

I'd be up for a rolling road session in Bucks.

Thor sounds a good outfit, but is just a bit too far me.

Jon

well guys a dyno run is just the same anywhere, as ive said before this is just to find out about numbers. so just let me know and il find out some prices.

sounds good to me. we need to do more as a club. and if people fancied i could easily get magazine coverage from various mags---> redline, fast car, at a push banzai.

Hi.

I think I have a Superchip mod, what is wrong with them?

Do I find out by removing the ECU cover to see what chip is installed?

the problem is that the fuel and timing maps are identical to the stock ones and the only difference is an increased rpm limit (or is it speed limit?).

spot on , they just remove the speed limiter and add on a few hundred RPM for the rev limiter , these Chips are a definate NO NO for the 300zx

That in itself isn't the problem - its the fact the boost is also increased by bleed valves so the stock maps are NOT suitable....

LOL it is a problem if you want to run anything above 11psi ish

Stop being picky and go and find your turbos  That was my point Ryan LOL

well looks like a few people are intressted any way, as for superchips il agree with their chips not being the best ones in the world far from it. but as for leaving the ignition and fuel maps stock thats 100% not true sorry guys, i used to work for superchips a few years ago and im sure i remember changing the fuel and ignition maps to cope with 13-14 psi. as i said proberly not the best chip to go for reliablity.

lets just say i wouldnt put a superchip on my beloved Z but the point of this post is about a dyno run which i dont have a problem with.

bet il get slagged for this one ! ! ! LOL ! ! !

Why would you get Slagged David nothing wrong with having an opinon and expressing it mate, having looked at superchips maps and compared them too stock there does seem to be no difference apart from the above two points, there was also a member on here who ran a superchips eprom and at 14 psi and melted a spark plug in one cylinder and a piston in another , there chips may work very well on some cars there has just been no where near enough development for the Z32

LOL David no one is slagging you off lol. I just cringed when I saw the company name thats all ;) Seen far too many horror stories.

As far as organising the event, good on you and go for it! Good to see someone else putting something else back into the site ;)

Appologies for ruining the tone of your thread - certainly wasn't meant to be how it turned out ;)

Il agree with mate, all i can say is that i used to mod the ign and fuel maps when i was there. i wouldnt put one on my zed, anyway Ryan would chip would you recomend for my Z to run 14psi, its got induction kit cat bk exhaust but will be putting on down pipes and decat pipes with uprated T25's / T28's turbo's as well ???

IMHO

the safest chip you can use is JWT not best as regards performance but without a doubt the safest

Ryan

YO ANDYDUFF, no need to say sorry. its the whole point of this club site, i think LOL

i just want to get more involved any way should be fun.

YO RYAN thanks for the advice not looking for max power just to get the sort of power the z should have in the first place, know where i can get one ???

YO NICKZ32 sounds could to me, the magazine idea. if we can get enough people to go id love to get my Z in the mag with the club as well.
