Any help would be much appreciated.

Basically my car has been stored in a garage for a few months and I went to run it a little while ago and is was misfiring on one of the cylinders I checked the plugs they are ok I even swapped them round and it was still the same cylinder, I did the same for the coil packs and it still turned out to be the same cylinder ive checked the wires and they all seam to be ok. Last week I went to start the car again and as soon as I connected the positive jump lead the car started by itself with no key in the ignition! So I disconnected the leads and it continued to run. I put the key in the ignition and removed it and it still ran, so I disconnected the battery earth then the positive and it still ran. At this point I was a little concerned. To stop the car I had to remove the leads on top of the plugs and let it stall. The car is a 1990 TT import.

Anyone got any ideas??

Thanks

Some American remote unlocking controls can be configured to start the car using the remote button.Maybe one of these is fitted and the act of connecting the battery triggered it.Another possability is a turbo timer keeping the engine running, again due to false triggering.

Maybe, but the car has no aftermarket alarm or as far as i know remote start system. Also the car doesnt have its turbo timer fitted yet! One thing i noticed is i think the fuel pump has started to run constantly aswell!

Sounds to me like you could have a fault with the ignition switch that is causing things to stay permanently live.

As I said in my email I also think that you may have a PTU problem (assuming that the faulty cylinder still does not operate when the engine starts itself!).

Firstly, you need to identify the main electrical problem, shouldn' be too difficult with a multimeter (and the knowledge to use it). Are you based near somone who could help you out ?

Hi, The faulty cylinder is always faulty even when it starts itself! I should be able to test the electrical circiuts if someone could tell me what to test as i have a mulitmeter.

Yeh but wait a minute maybe - just maybe it is possessed! wooooOOOOOOooooOOOOOooow - creak OH! what was that

Not 100% sure on this but doesn't the ECU carry a start signal somewhere? Maybe this is routing back and starting the car... Might just be worth removing the ECU connector and seeing if it tries to start then.... Or maybe the starter relay has jammed? Will have to have a proper look at the wiring diags tbh...

So should i disconnect the ecu then attach the jump leads? Surely it wont start without the ecu attached?

Ill try and perform an ecu diagnostic and see if that gives any clues!

Cheers

 Soinds like you got the car off Nigh Rider

That car hads a puff's voice.

It used to go "ooohhh, Micheal" in a very camp way.

That would be cool!!! :)

Obviously without the campness!!

Ive just tried to start it again and the car didnt start itself when i attached the jump leads, it just atarted at the turn of the key. I tried it a few times and it didnt start itself, so hopefully it has stopped. It still doesnt fire on on of the cylinders tho so i suspect the PTU. Ive done a ECU diag and it came with code 34 which i already know about and have had checked, so im certain it will be the PTU, anyone know a good place to purchase one or is it a nissan job?

If you get one from Nissan in the UK, it will still be a series 1 unit  Better off getting a series 2 from one of our traders (MJP or Petrolheads NW). You should really be subscribed (£20) to get the best deal...
