My air con pump doesnt work - so i dont use it, as it is pointless on a targa top anyway. however this is my problem :

I got in the car the other day an pulled away and water came pissing down inside the car from behined the dash on the passenger side (over the ecu area) - there was loads of it but after a while (5 secs) it stopped. I thought maybe we had heavy rain and somehow it had worked its way through a line in the bulk head, however - the next day i garaged it over night (no rain etc) and the same thing happened again when i drove out of my garage.

It feels and smells just like normal water - which is why i mentioned the bit about my air con pump not working

Anyone got any ideas ?

I did have a water leak from the matrix hoses - but this was solved between the first incident and the second - so its nowt to do with the matrix pipes

I would greatly appreciat any help or ideas as to WTF this is

Cheers guys, Mike :hyper:

What does that exactly mean ??

Dash out - new matrix etc ?

How much ?

Jesus christ lol

If it is the matrix (and water in the footwell sounds like the matrix) you can get the matrix from the US (Courtesyparts.com is the cheapest as far as I know) and just swap the pipes that the hoses connect to from the old one. The LHD matrix is the same as the RHD except the pipes that are very easy to swap.

I changed my matrix with the dash in, and it takes a bit of patience. There is one bolt that you can only reach from under the bonnet and it is a PITA to get to. I must have spent atleast an hour before I managed to undo it. It is not tight, just hopeless to reach. Do a search on this forum and look at the aussie one (they have write up on how to do it with the dash in). If you have a manual (mines a manual) you will have to remove the clutch pedal to be able to swing the matrix out. I would do it with the dash in if I ever ended up doing it again.

It could well be the matrix, but,on a previous Z i had this problem, water down passenger side footwell, back of ECU,at first thought was heater gone, but just by chance was under the bonnet passenger at the back, noticed that the pipe leading from the air con drip tray had been blocked of by a bolt shoved up it,took the bolt out and water pissed out, thereby free up the drip tray, which when filling up with condensed water pissed over the top, problem solved, just thought it may be worth you checking out,at the moment on my ptresent Z the matrix is shot, water was coming down drivers side footwell, have done the by-pass fix for time being :(

Tony

Hey.. I don't have the answer... but I am in Abbotskerswell... any good local suppliers for parts?? For a Z31 that is??

Cheers dude

I'd guess it's not his A/C drain pipe, as his compressor doesn't run - if the compressor isn't working then there shouldn't be any condensation on the a/c matrix to need draining.. worth a check I suppose (easier than the matrix ;)), but I wouldn't hold out too much hope..

Dash out - new matrix etc ?

Yup :(

How much ?

Well, if you go to a main dealer, make sure you take an extra large tube of KY with you ;)

Take it to someone like Baggins and I'm sure it'll be considerably cheaper than a big garage.. though I've no idea what he'd charge really, it can't possibly be as bad as a dealer ;)

I filled the rad up tip top tonight and this is quite bizzarre but i ran the car tonight and there was no water coming down inside the footwell at all !

I must have gone to 5 different places last night stopping for half hour or so and nothing !!! Plus - the rad is still full !

I did notice however that the cowling that goes along the base of the windscreen (has been split for ages - looking for a new one) had moved up and the seal had broken above the battery area ?!?!?

Please tell me this could be the issue here ?

Thanks very much for all you help - i am ready to get trummed by nissan in the event that it is the matrix

I have a brand new exedy clutch in my garage for a Z31 mate !!! Its in need of selling !

As for other parts - jap spares on marsh barton exeter, and the best garage in the country - AP motors in plymouth can get lots for your Z31 and will give you a discount on labour charges if you join the Ultimate Jap car club (free plug to myself there haha)
