Hi all. Well, the first thing to go wrong is my Headlight, went to get in it to go and pick up some beer, and my right headlight has gone. I'm glad it didn't go last night whilst in Southend, there were so many cops about I would have been pulled instantly, it's pretty weird that it's happened tonight and not last night really, but hey, whatever.

Anyway, where do you guys get your replacement bulbs from? Halfords? And as it's a Jap import am I going to have any problems with fitments etc. I've never had a bulb go on me before, let alone on a Zed, so I thought if anyone knew any tips or had any suggestions, it would be those boys online. Any help would be cool, I must admit driving around with just the foglights looked kinda good, but not exactly best for visibility :D

One footnote, since a bulb has gone, do you think it's best to upgrade? As like some others have said, the standard lights aren't that great for night time... Know of anyone who does them? Any traders from here?

If you don't fancy the cost of HID upgrade then do the conversion to H3 bulbs as the UK car has.

Then get yourself a pair of Osram Super +30% H3 bulbs.

PIAAs are good but cost between £30 and £40. The Osrams are every bit as good - in fact I think they are actually better as they give less glare in rain but only cost £14.50 a pair from http://www.powerbulbs.com inc.P&P

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I had the same exact problem last week. Mines a 92 JDM auto TT. I didn't have the time to go through the conversion thing so I went with the PIAA superwhites from priracing.com. (H144/H3C) After reading some previous post from here about installation, I replaced mine in just over an hour just using my hands. Result... O LA LA I can't believe I put this off for so long. Have fun and get those knuckles ready for a beating. :xxx: :xxx:

Thanks for your advice guys. I'll check out those links! In the meantime I'll leave it on the drive, the police round here are just waiting for an excuse to nick me I'm sure of it (Paranoid) :)

i changed my first jap head lamp bulb at the weekend...went to harry's got the bulb for £4.50...then did a mod for the missing earth wire using a live terminal fuse holder section of a 13 amp plug...the open legs (where the fuse usually goes) clipped tightly over the UK spec bulb housing making a excellent earth then made up a short wire running from the fuse holder into the earth on the headlamp connector then taped with insulating tape... pity i couldnt take any pics to show how...but for speed and those who aint got a soldering iron its very easy and can be used the next time a bulb blows just pop off the fuse holder and clip onto the new bulb

Twinpier,

That sounds cool, how about a diag. then if no pics.

Would like to try that as PIaa's very expensive and only last about a year!

remove the old jap spec bulb and you are left with a dangling connecting block into which you must connect your new bulb...get a 453 (halfords) bulb or the blue type/higher wattage equivilent...you will see they only come with a positive wire this pushes easily into the positive part of the dangling connector do this now... ok your 1/2 way there...so next get yourself an old household plug...remove the terminal bit in the plug...this the bit which the live wire screws into it also holds one end of the fuse holder not the pins which push into a socket in the wall...this little bit is going to become your new negative connector for your bulb...you should have a bit of a plug in your hands now with a bit for screwing in a wire and a bit which originally held one end of a fuse ...cut a short piece of wire (insulated obviously) strip both ends....screw one end into the terminal bit you got out of your old plug...then taking your new bulb push the fuse holder bit/legs directly onto the metal end of the bulb you may have to bend the legs of the fuse holder in a bit to get a tight fit take care not to touch the glass end of the bulb as your finger marks could blow your new bulb...then with the other end of the wire push into the headlamp connector with a flat blade screwdriver...tape over with insulating tape...put the bulb back in...job done
