I was reading a thread about someone trying to post somone a cheque and it not getting there.

The postal service is terrible near me. I've been waiting for something (un Z-related) for over a week.

One girl at work only gets post about twice a week, then she gets everything for her whole street. Sometimes some of it's just dumped in the road.

My neighbour says lots of his never arrives, including wage slips, credit card statements etc.

Is it bad elsewhere or is it just here?

Featured Replies

its bad here,

post can arrive any time from 8am - 4pm and we only have one post

usually we get neighbours mail and they get ours, also got mail today for a house about 2 miles away because the road name looked similar to ours (arnt postcodes there to stop that)

postmen walk around in tracksuits, or jeans, and jump over small walls instead of using the path.

luckily stuff gets here in the end, but it always takes a few days more than it used to,

Forum cheques and forms I posted to AndrewG never arrived. About two months later I got a call from the Post Office saying that "this form is incomplete (needs signing) and what are these unsigned cheques for ?". So it turns out that the mail must have been opened, envelope lost and then someone saw the form was intended for the Post Office and sent it off together with the unsigned cheques. Who then rang me ...

Also, I hear that theft of credit card letters has increased significantly, since the Chip and PIN notifications have started being sent out.

The amount of complaints we get from our customers saying they haven't had their documents is unreal! We know we're sending it out, but a large percentage is just not getting to them on time if at all. It's a sad state of affairs I agree.

I have had a few parcels I have sent Via Ebay not arriving recently

Yep, I had one too (or rather didn't !)

My post used to arrive at 9:30ish every day. It now gets here between 12 and 4pm. Some first class letters now take 3-4 days to arrive. I work from home and this makes it almost impossible to bank incoming cheques on the day they arrive. In addition, a cheque for nearly 10 grand took nearly 3 weeks to arrive in September, although it was clearly and correctly addressed.

Post Office - Bunch of arse :xxx:

Rant over..

Steve :(

BTW Jock lives 5 mins away from me and gets his post at 7:30am every morning - go figure

I stay in Airdrie, Scotland, and my dad stays in Horley, Sussex.

Posted his birthday card on Friday night at 6.00pm and he had it 1st thing on Monday morning.

Two weeks earlier I posted a letter from Airdrie to Stansted, and it took 11 days to arrive. :(

Whits that all about ????

Alan........

It is really bad up here too, infact I can honestly say it is a total discrace, anything from stuff not getting here to delivery at 11.30am when it always was 7.45.

Royal mail? LOL I think the Queen needs to get rid of the royal bit:rofl:

get yourself a PO Box...only £50 a year...:)

not sure how a p.o. box will stop the thieving twats m8?

if it goes in the system they can thieve it:(

i know a guy who works for an agency, works at loads of different places

got the shock of my life when i saw him delivering mail, considering a few years ago he did 4 years for drug offences

so its absolute crap when they say they vet them, he would still be there now

if his agency hadn't have cocked his wages up

so half the work force can't read where theyre supposed to deliver them,

most of the others can't be arsed or look at our post as their perks:(

It used to be called the royal mail. It the changed it to consignia, it then changed it again to Post Office. It hasnt been the Royal Mail for years now.

I cant see how a company can have a monopoly of delivering letters can be so bad and lose so much money a year.

Would people be OK paying another 10p for first class if it meant it got there and the service was better?

I know I would.

Are you sure about that Stu?

Well, my phone bill hasnt turned up yet, thats got to be a bonus!!!

Our postman stuart is brilliant, just when he's on holiday that we get problems.

When i worked at the petrol station, i used to save the points that people didnt have (and more, naughty naughty!!) and i sent for £250 worth of index vouchers, all that arrived was a ripped envelope in a bag that said sorry we damaged your mail!!!

Of course i couldnt chase it up cos i shouldnt of been getting them anyway.

As you know i work for Royal Mail so do you want the Business answer or my own answer??

OK my own

Where do i start!!

The company is now back to Royal mail and never changed but the trading company got changed to consignia cost millions in advertising and was scrapped a year later!! not bad for a company that was losing nearly 2 billion per year!! about 4 years ago the company went through a process called apollo and an external company came in and said to the board either make changes...big changes or pack your bags and go home!! so the first part of the comapany "parcelforce" which i work for went first!! halved the jobs halved the offices and depots and was big news a few years back and after alot of hard work we are now in profit!! not bad for a company that lossed 700 million 4 years ago.

Now the postoffice and postal service are now going through the same process we did a few years ago hence all the changes, all the job losses etc etc and is causing alot of pain but it will get better but not for a few years yet but it will!! i hope!! the main cause of the problems are the fact that to send a first class letter it costs royal mail more than 28p but if it raised the amount you pay all the old grannies would go mad ;) in france its about 60p for a first class and germany about £1 and these have first class services (see a joke :D ) so it will get better and it frustrates me as well!! i dont get my post till 11am -3pm so pi55ed me off

Kirbz

You see Stu get your facts right before you post:D:D;)

Goto the Post Office website, and it says business use goto royal mail. :P

Mike works for them;)

i have to admit the post here isnt too bad - arrives about 10am and only once, but the postie's friendly and wears uniform. one of them used to wear bermuda shorts no matter what the weather. top bloke!

Ours does that - wears shorts and a shirt all year round!

I suppose if you had to ride round on one of those heavy single-geared bikes, you'd generate a fair bit of internal heat too! ;)

the main cause of the problems are the fact that to send a first class letter it costs royal mail more than 28p but if it raised the amount you pay all the old grannies would go mad ;)

Kirbz

agreed m8, 28p to send a letter from one end of the country to the other, is a hell of a deal, but NOT when they don't arrive, i send "a lot" of mail weekly

and for the last few months send half of it recorded,

but typical service is

The system is currently unable to confirm the status of your item with reference DP.................... Please try again later, that was from track and trace a few minutes ago, that item was posted 2nd nov, so i can say with confidence its lost, so ive paid over treble the cost and thats one item

yep i know recorded goes in with normal post, but if i claim for that item, £27

no wonder royal mail is in the shite

ive taken to sending a lot special, again it's not uncommon for it not to arrive the next day, but 99% of the time i know it's going to arrive, i wonder how many like me can't be arsed claiming the postage back if it doesn't arrive the day after, now if people did i think royal mail would be in deeper shit,

sadly i think the posties with years in have decided its time to get out, which aint good news for us :(
