when the 1993 tt manual is in low recs i can hear a jinging noise. very strange , cant really explain it apart from it sounds exactly like a metal jingling of some sort seens to die away at higher revs and alot lowder at low revs. Any ideas anyone ??????

Is it only under high load? If it is, could be detonation. Would need to hear it but if you're not sure, then take it easy as it will kill your engine.

Could also be a heat shield rattling.

Don't assume det will always cause safety boost, it won't.

The ECU only looks for det with a high sensitivity over a limited range of engine operation so you can have problems without triggering it. Also, when it first detects det it pulls 1° off the timing. Only when it has done this several times will it trigger safety boost anyway.

The difference is obvious once you've heard both, but really hard to describe!!

hmm think mines detting then as noticed it become more sluggish at slow driving i.e when the turbos dont kick in and the steering feels heavier.

Just a thought have you De-catted ? If not it might be the inside of the Cat degenerating....only a thought mind you :(

the rattling was the water pump , the water leak was the overflow in the wing , new pump went on , no overheating now and no noise!!!!!!!
