are the fuel pumps supposed to be so loud. Just asking cos the one on ours makes a real noisey buzzing noise. IS it normal to be so loud?

Featured Replies

Have never heard the fuel pump on mine (and definitely couldn't hear it now over the new exhaust!)

ooh err, would you say there is a problem with it then? Theres certainly no probs with fuel starvation, its never missed a beat and it goes like a rocket. The fuel consumtion is good too so I dont see any probs with the actual pumping its just LOUD! You reckon its on its last legs?

Mine is noisy just when turning on the ignition, this because the pump has to build pressure before starting the engine. After this I dont here the pump.

good question , if its commign from the back rear then that is the fuel pump (am i correct on this) and mine make noise before i turn it on and for a sec when it swithces off.

yeah it goes for a second after u turn on the ignition and stays on for a second after u turn the engine off. But it goes all the time with the engine on making a row.

If it's making a lot of noise it's probably running at full speed and this is most likely caused by a dodgy fuelpump-control module

Could it be the rear oil pump (for the diff / tranny cooling system)? Its possible thats its stuck on somehow?!

Just a thought :S

so how would I go about finding which one. Im thinking its the fuel pump, how would you test the control module, and if thats gone are they expensive?

Give me a shout if you do end up needing the pump. I've still got one I can sell you.

Cheers

I had that problem years ago. The humm noise comming from near the fuel tank. You could hear it a lot for the 5 seconds after turning off the engine. Nissan claimed it was just a noise, un-lucky, but some garage managed to still change it under the warrenty.... how I dont' know!
