Assessor has advised he will be recommending C or D class write off. I haven't let them take it away, but am still not sure if I should try and get it fixed. Now got the bonnet open but no pics as yet. Everything has been shoved back to the engine, but I am unable to see any actual damage to the engine itself. Left hand wing definately needs replacing as front point totally folded over. Right hand side has a slight crease where the front has been pushed back against the wheel.

What would you do/recommend?

i suppose it depends on what damage there has been to the actual structure of the car. I suppose at the end of the day anything is fixable but is it worth it given the price of zeds at the moment? I also know how attached you can get to a piece of metal aswell, sometimes the head has to make the decision, not the heart!

The assessor reckons I haven't damaged the chassis at all, all superficial at the front as the Corsa I hit went up over the top. Prices he was quoting for the parts were terrifying though, £247 per light, £700+ for the bumper etc. If I fix it I'm on the scrounge for some cheaper second hand parts.

Thanks for your reply Scoops, lessens the feeling of depression knowing there's someone out there. My insurance company won't give me a courtesy car until they know who's to blame, and require the third party details. The police accident centre don't have the full details yet, as the WPC hasn't filed her report so I have to wait on that. Pressure coming from my new job as well, so things don't look to rosy at the mo. I've got to find some way of getting in to work and back. :(

Cheers anyway,

Simon.

as scoops says m8, you have to let the head make the decision

if you decide to buy it back (IF they let you)

how much is it gonna cost to put 100%

the finished car is never gonna be worth the same money

as a cat c/d you will struggle to sell when that time comes

in some cases your insurance will rise being a cat c/d

almost certainly unless its a no fault claim or protected nc

if it was mine the criteria would be if i was putting it back on the road

it would have to be a BETTER car when finished, ie get a new bonnet of your choice, new bumper upgrade suspension etc etc

and if i couldnt do that for the money they payout, then time to look for a new Z m8

good luck m8;)

Hi Simon

I recently had a front end shunt too. I took it to the insurance co's recommended repairer who gave the OK to fix it, but when the insurance co got the price of the parts they considered writing it off and sent another engineer to inspect my ZX. Luckily he thought the car was OK to save.

Most insurance companies will not let you use 2nd hand parts if they arrange or pay for repairs. I gave the body shop Mike Feeney's contact details and he supplied a 99 spec front bumper for £280, indicators for £43, headlight for £110 and front wing for £80. All plus VAT of course (prices approximate from memory).

Even though it was classed as my fault I still got a courtesy car for a week while it was repaired - on the condition that I used the insurance co's body shop.

Get a list of what you need and contact Mike @ MJP - Top guy, he sorted all the parts in a couple of days so I could get the car done before my holiday too

Good luck mate

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

have you had a proper estimate done?? wouldnt have though it would be that expensive TBH, whats the value of the car to write it off??

fook knows where they got £700 for the bumper, there half that cost mate!!

id get a decent bodyshop to give you a proper estimate.

If the chassis is ok, i say there is still hope. There are plenty of second hand parts for sale at the mo and im sure you could get all the bits you need for reasonable prices. Dont give up yet!!

There are a few bits in the for sale section just now that can get you started. Front bumper, bonnet, headlight panel etc...

Get a good body shop to quote, preferably one who will talk with the engineer

I had a no fault accident, this is the picture -

Cost to repair - £2800 (no replacement parts needed)

If you have a police statement saying its not your fault call this number -

01270 500 900

and ask to speak to Jane, my car and claim were sorted in 10 days and I received a courtesy car. All it cost me was £8 to insure my claim with them (if they can't get their money in 12 months this covers you)

It is your choice who fixes your car, and you can get any legal representation you want.
