Well, after 3 weeks of Zed ownership I have a knacked engine. I'll not get into the nitty gritty but it looks as though the best way to go from here is to break the car. I'm definitely not going for an engine swap or a rebuild.

Now I could sell the car on for someone else to break but I'll not get very much at all for it. I'm sure I'll be able to make most of my money back selling the the bits individually but I don't have the expertise or space to break everything.

It's a Red, 1992 UK spec TT manual with full leather. The body work is very good for the age and the paint hasn't faded at all.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice? I'm gutted!

Sorry to disappoint tattooman (nice paint job btw).

After getting over the shock (and subsequent panic) I've decided not to break her. It would be a huge shame considering the condition of the car and the relative rarity of UK manuals. With a newer engine and turbos she'll have a hell of a lot of life in her. Not to forget the work I've just had done:-propshaft bearing replacement, tension rod bushes, battery, belt service, radiator + cap, replacement hoses, immobiliser, aluminium Z gear shifter - hell I even had the wheels balanced last week, not to mention the half tank of Optimax still in there..

I've placed a deposit on a good engine, complete with turbos so for a total of around £1600 I'll be able to get the car back on the road with an engine which has quite a lot less mileage than the original.

It's going to cost a lot more than I originally budgeted for but that's life (as I'm sure all you Z owners already know :) . Unless, that is, someone wants to buy the chassis from me (£2.5K no offers) and fit the engine themselves.

c onsidering you have only owned the car 3weeks keep her there great cars and anyone who has this happen to them will first off not want the damn thing but the bitch grows on you :) good luck with the rebuild

As Greg says, keep her matey, there well worth it. Yeah there expensive, but so fVcking what, its onyl cash.

And the pleasure U get when U slowly press the accelerator and watch the boost rise, then about half way, foot down............eeeeeeaaaarrrrr wweeeeee goooooo!!!!!!

Awesome cars, awesome...........

You wont regret it.....;)

Where abouts in Nottinghamshire r you mate? And where you getting the engine fitted? I might be able to help....

I'm in the centre of Nottingham - was planning to get the engine swapped by a chap in Lincolnshire who's done all manner of work on Zeds.

I wasn't driving the car very long but, yes, the onset of boost is mightily fun, especially exiting large, empty damp roundabouts!

I don't blame you for keeping her, I've nearly been there sooooo many times but you just gotta keep the faith in the Z......
