Dont know if this is any help but if you have'nt found your keys yet (and prosuming you have'nt got the key-code) dont ring a locksmith they'll charge you a small fortune !, try this if you have'nt sorted allready (should work on other older cars too)....

Find a friend or somebody with a mk2 golf/jetta/polo (same door handle/design of key i think) and insert thier key in your lock (dont just put it in and turn once you have to be a bit more patient :) ) you have to pull it in and out very slighty and turn the key at the same time for a while . You may get lucky like i did with an old Beetle i had years ago, i tried my friends beetle van key in my beetle door lock and with a bit of wiggling it worked.

Next with the door open , on the side of the door right next to the handle there should be a screw (poss behind a cap/grommet) undo this and remove the door handle.

Then take the handle to a key specialist and ask them to cut a key for that door lock .My local one does this for an extra charge but not unreasonable and cheaper than a new handle in most cases, also good if you have a rare car.

Heh, a K Plate Calibra 16v 110000 miles, compared to the Z & the s14a petrol it is insane for a tool eater. I put in £25 over a week ago, in that time i've driven to and from Gatwick (220 miles!), to the shops a few times, and back & forward to work for 3 days up n down to Cirencester and it's still got just under 1/4 a tank!

and the only thing I've had to do to it since I bought it 4 months ago for £700 is keep a pair of pliers in the car for the fekn bonnet catch ( ;) all older VX owners will be able to relate to this) I think I should treat it to a wash & oil change this week for being so well behaved!

:D

a shitroen saxo 1.1i  but at least its 100mpg lol

im a locksmith and i dont charge a fortune :slap: but your right if a key code is available it can sometimes? approx 40%of the time! be found on the outside of the lock/barrel if not just take the lock out and take it to a locksmith by the way beetle locks are shite and generally warn out so ya cock would of opened it anyway lol

98 Renault Scenic 1.6e and a 91 Bmw 535i sport....but the Zed will be replacing the Bmw :hyper:

Hmmm....was talking about getting a cheap runaround in the pub last night. Being charged like a raging bull by my insurers at the moment but if I get a second car the premium gets slashed by £500! Spurred on by this I might be going to see a Mk1 Volkswagen Golf tomorrow for the worryingly cheap sum of £250 (waiting for them to get back to me with the Reg/VIN number/name of registered owner etc so I can run an internet HPI check before travelling over to see it. They haven't got back to me yet, not a good sign!). Anyone got any experience with these, things I should look out for? Or for that matter any other "workhorse" cars you might recommend for very little money?

Leigh.
