On my way back from the Emerald Isle and while parked after a motorway cruise I had steam appear from the back of bonnet edge. I thought it was on fire. Must have been dripping onto the exhausts. I released the radiator cap in a panic and it wasnt boiling up. I topped it up and got several hundred miles home OK. Cant see where the water came from. There must be a hose back there that has a small crack or pinhole that opens up when it gets the heat soak pressure after parking hot.

Had visions of it coming back on a AA relay truck and a ferry ride as well.

Any advice welcomed

Willieo,

There is a water pipe which comes from the turbo up the back of the engine , some of it is metal but there is a rubber joining hose , I have had 3 different customers cars in so many weeks burst this pipe,

if someone has a rear shot of an engine its easy to see but a pita to fix

Ryan

Loads of little hoses feeding the turbos and the plenum mate, you are better off doing the throttle body bypass and feeding it straight to the turbos!

Thanks for all the assistance. How do you change these hoses without hands like ET?

With great fookin difficulty, and you will probably find that once you replace one, the next weakest link will fail, ie the hose before the one youve just done, or the one on the other side.

Ive been on mine 2 days now

Thats the beauty of the throttle body bypass, you replace all of the plenum hoses with four hoses!

So why is the bypass a good idea in this climate. Does the water cool the plenum or heat it up for better cold running? Mines always seems to be roasting.

Hi Willie,

I have never heard of problem caused by the bypass, the only problem it could cause would be to freeze the throttle bodies!

The water warms the plenum and TB's for extremely cold climates, and for me it is a detracts for the idea of the intercoolers.

The turbos are meant to have too much of a warming effect for this to ever happen.
