last week i did a coolant change and fitted smithys hardpipe kit great i thought

removed all the old hoses flushed rad and refilled with the correct mix of antifreeze/water

a day later i started her up and it took ages for the temp to come up thought this was strange, then all of a sudden temp started to go to max!!!on inspection all the water had gone from the rad.Looked at rad cap and the seal was fooked so ordered another one, fitted that bled the systym and refilled day later did the same again  repeated and it did it again FFS

sorry to go on but would a faulty rad cap dump water out of the expansion tank?

theres no white smoke from exhaust other than condensation

the only thing i can think is if somethings not done up tight enough! and water is leaking.

today i noticed very fine bubbles in the water with a little bit of white on the surface from the bleed screw end not the refil end! if that makes sense. :) what do you all think temp is fine theres no oil loss no leaking oil in water... should i just remove everything and start again opinions and experiance please :) thanks greg

Greg, firstly do not panic, I am sure you do not have a major problem from your description.

The rad cap is the most likely culprit, the header wher the cap fits is made of plastic, the neck of the cap fittment wears slightly and can lead to the cap been actually looser in the fully closed position,

Trick here is to close the cap until the seal is made and not go to the full rotation the cap will have a better seal and no more leaking.

The fine bubbles / white etc is oxygen in the water, as you have filled it with new water a few times it has just added morE oxegen too, this will go eventually thats why ofetn why you need to top up, not water loos but airation..

If u had no probs before then it possibly has to be an airlock.

My neighbour had exactly the same prob as you described and it was a lock. I sorted it for him by flushing the sysyem out (thru lower hose) re fitted the Rad and part filled, ran it, continued to fill and bleed. It can take a while but sounds like it.

Once you fill the system with antifreeze it will find any leaks you have !!

is yours a jap

i remember someone saying the jap cap is slightly different size

dont quote me on this though

thanks for the reply jeff il try that trick! hopefully if an airlock is present then it will go with a proper flush however after i park up 30mins later there is a large puddle under car  is this a leak or still due to air trapped

there is no evidence of water from water pump just drips out of the undertray drivers side hose related or is this water pissing from expansion tank

splatt cheers for that if rad cap trick fails il flush cheers bud

Sound like airlock bud-do you run it up with heater on hot and rad cap off? ;)

Am assuming that you have replaced the top and bottom rad pipes. Remember that you will need to tighten the jubilee clips on all of the new pipes when the car is hot. The clips do expand when the engine gets warm and this will lead to leaks if not retightened... Deffo doesn't sound like the expansion tank if it's leaking on driver's side.

Does the leccy fan kick in-all hoses hot-rad cap off.If so I'd be inclined to drop the undertray off and check for leaks-especially around the rad spigots as these are a weak point .HTH ;)

Greg if your cap is still no good i have Blitz and Greddy caps in stock :)

Have seen this on mine, the neck was worn out, took a while to get the

cap to sit properly. Had a new rad made up for me, still using the

original cap with no problems! Cant understand why Nissan make it from

plastic, when you consider the damage it can cause

Had kinda same problem of late,a couple of midland meets back, got to pub only to find water flooding out,and sprayed all over engine, toped it up and went to put cap on(new Greddy cap),b19rks was watching me and i said the cap seems bit wobbly/lose when fitted,b19rks said try it the other way round(ie according to the position of the Greddy logo)so did,no probs after that, well nice and tight, and looking back, i did have an amount bubbly white water in system prior to this happening that night,as i was topping it up once a week thinking its my matrix water pissin out(matrix is shot tho).
