zed classification

hi!

i'm a bit of a newbie to the zed scene, n i'm considering gettin myself my 1st tt in the next couple of months.

is it possible to get a non import tt of a reasonable age (say '92 onwards) as insurance on an import i'm assuming would be a lot higher.

any advice on the subject would be most appreciated!

If you mean, can you get UK spec TTs, then the answer is yes, you can get them up to '94.

Hi Dik

Don't just dismiss imports for the high insurance - yes they are generally higher but there are insurers (eg Houghtons - see traders forums) that don't charge more for imports.

That said, you are limited to fewer companies if you have an import but once you have added a couple of mods (eg just new alloys and an airfilter induction kit) to a UK car your choice of insurers dwindles anyway.

BTW mine is a UK car, so I'm not biased there ;)

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I second what Richard says, after checking numerous Insurance companies the difference in Import and UK price to insure is'nt as much as you would expect.

yes, some companies will not insure an Import, and some will charge a rediculous figure, but many were less than 10% higher for an Import.

thanks for the info! i'm getting onto the insurance companies about it now!

what benefits would i get from buying an import over a UK spec zed?

hmm tricky one. i'll start off by saying you get a nice Z badge instead of a Nissan beefburger :D ;)

i think i'll :x: before i start another :mac1: :)

Possibly less rust (although this is debatable.. do a search, lots of recent chat about this!!)

Probably less miles (average mileage is much less in the land of the rising sun)

"switchable" auto boxes (power + hold settings missing from UK cars)

cant think of any more...

can think of a few bad points about getting an import, insurance costs, documentation (if any) in japanese, need an extra oil cooler if auto, difficult to guarantee mileage, possibly not undersealed so more prone to rust when it gets here (again debatable) and probably some more stuff I cant think of right now..

Having said all that I've got an import and it suits me fine! whatever you choose they are great cars and you wont be dissapointed! :)

Insuring a Z is always fun..... I have an import that was standard but as soon as you buy a standard Z you want to play with it by adding just a couple of things.

New intake

Stainless system (original often worse for wear after 12 years ! )

Maybe alloys

And bob's yer ungle and Richard is right your down to a handfull of companies that will qoute reasonably for modded cars and at that stage they dont really care if its an import.

Bottom line is...it makes stuff all difference to a modded Z insurance cost.

And to say that your not going to mod the car is like taking a kid into a sweet shop and not buying a sweet.... imposible !!

Oh and if you do buy a import auto, make job number one to upgrade the auto cooler. I speak from bitter experience (that turned into an excuss to convert to a manual  )
