Just got a set of standard 16s to replace my buckled 17s and ran in to a problem.

When I try to put them on I noticed that the centre bit on the inside of the wheel (don't know the name of it - like 4 lips that will sit arounf the hub) doesn't sit flush on all 4 wheels when fitted - it does on 2 and looking at the inside of all 4 wheels, the lips seem to be deeper on two. It also seems that these lips are too tight around the edge of the hub (I think) and this won't let them push on all the way.

Bit confused as these wheels are supposed to be off an 89-92 TT and even have the Z centre caps. Is there a difference between UK and J-spec or something? Not sure if these came from a uk or not, but mine is 90 j-spec.

your 17's may have had little plasic rings to make it bigger and allow them to fit. I you have them on the hub you can probably take them off with a small screw driver. Stock alloys should fit then

Jspec has the same wheel all round which take the 225/50 R16 tyre. 33psi front and rear. They're 7.5" rims with a 45mm offset. Stamped into the rim you will find:

L 40P05 (for the left side wheel) and 40P00 R (for the right)

The UK has the above as front tyres and wider wheels at the rear which take 245/45 R16 36psi. They're 8.5" rims with a 35mm offset. L 40P15 and 40P10 R

And bear in mind they are handed as well - wrong way round:frontqtrpsngrside.jpg

right way round: acc5s.jpg

If you look down the side of the car, J wheels (and UK front) look vaguely dished outwards and UK rear look dished inwards. This concludes everything I know about wheels!

(Except that Bridgestone S-03s in 225 at the rear lasted me 18 months / 18,000 miles and when I switched to UK rears, S-03s in 245 only lasted 11 months / 11,000  )
