Hello, I've been wanting a 300 for quite sometime now but there are so many different types I havent a clue which are decent and which ones to stay clear of! Auto or manual? Whats the difference between a Fairlady and the TT? I've also seen a short wheel base one. I definitly want the turbo model but am unsure of the other options. I'm looking at spending no more than £5500 and will be buying one in March next year.

manual or auto each for there own the auto on the 300zx is according to most auto owners is one of the best auto boxes around! manual is less common so finding one aint easy! but is good for downchanging and being in the right gear at the right time :)

 

 

the differance between TT AND FAIRLADY is that fairlady is japanese model name! again you will be pushed to find a uk 300zx in g.condition due to them being more used on british roads,in japan they dont tend to cover as many miles,and there for you can find a good fairlady import with fewer miles on the clock. :) insurance costs a bit more for an import.

 

SWB is the shorter version of the LWB obviously :rolleyes: but again not so common and these are all japanese imports but also dont have targa tops so no roof off in the summer only downer :( available in N/A TT MANUAL or AUTO

 

if you want a 300zx twin turbo theres only one really so make sure you go with someone who has past experiance with one of these beasts find a good one and you will never look back :hyper:and theres some really helpful people on this site

SWB's usually have targa's too, the coupe ones are even rarer

as greg says it just depends what you want:

 

TT or NA: i think the majority of people have the twin-turbo version, simply cos its faster and more powerful, and easier to modify for more power :hyper:

 

SWB or LWB: LWB is the most popular - basically 2-seater vs 2+2 seater

 

Manual or Auto: down to preference. the sports autobox is damn good (quite easy to break if you misbehave eg. build up revs in neutral, then drop into drive :nono: :nono: ) . Manuals GENERALLY tend to be driven harder than autos. Performance-wise, manuals are slightly faster 0-60 but rumours are that autos are faster 0-100. Unconfirmed as yet :rolleyes:

 

UK vs Import: jap imports GENERALLY tend to be better looked after, are less rusty, and have far less miles on the clock. However they have one or two weaknesses compared to UK spec (the oil cooler for one - £100-ish to uprate) and need to convert speedo/rear fog light (the importer should do this for you if you're importing fresh). Plus imports have Z on the bonnet instead of NISSAN so people dont know what it is :tongue:

It all comes down to choice how much of it you have i don't know but for

£5500 i would deffo have a look at the cars for sale section on here, a few up for sale at the mo and you can check to see what prob they have had and what upgrades the car has had by serching the owners past threads/posts which all add up to a great deal and at the mo their are a few good ones going for between £3 - 5,000. Well within your price range.

 

And i think you have already made the most imortant decission. Owning a Z :D
