jonce Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Hi there, I was speakin' to Macca a few mins ago and we got onto the subject of my AOL. He recons it's total shat. What do you lot think??  Quote [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SRRAE Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Its no good. It changes setting so that you cant get on certain sites making you use theirs. For example, when my sister went to AOL Hotmail stopped working as did a number of other site. Some pages would not display correctly unless you used the AOL broswer where they send themselves information about what you are looking at. Quote
Guest scoops Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Its no good. It changes setting so that you cant get on certain porn sites making you use theirs. thats no good then! Quote
cybernet Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Pile of crap IMHO - it does things to your system which are unnecessary and doesn't provide a true Windows TCP/IP stack. Also, you can't share the AOL connection (if that's something you may want to do) Steve :) Quote '93 UK TT Manual [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Steve-o Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 They are shit mate. They charged me for four months in one go on my credit card as they 'forgot' to charge me. They didnt notify me of the mistake etc and just took the money out of the accout when there wasnt any in there. They said it wasnt their prob and they dont notify people of anything in writing WTF? I couldnt even cancel my contract with them, they wouldnt let me! I had to make numerous phone calls and speak to about 10 brainless twats before getting something done. They would not even send me a statement of my account with them or anything to say how the charges were calculated. They are ****ing useless mate Quote
takemetothepub Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 AOL ****ing pile of dog shit. Dont go near it unless you want to pay a computer guy £100 to remove it once you find out it is shit. Wish someone would sue em for the amount of unwanted rubbish the software does to poor peoples computers that use it. Can you tell I dont like AOL? Quote
greg Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 MINES OK at least with aol broadband you get unlimited downloads hence why i chose them ;) with most others thers a limit each month fook that especially the amount of videos i download just IMO,i havent had any problems with mine YET :D Quote
Guest aaronjb Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 with most others thers a limit each month I knew someone out there would fall for that advert! Some ISP's have transfer limits in place, but there are still many, many out there without (in fact, I'd go so far as to say the majority).. Some are cheaper than AOL, and they all offer better service... (Which isn't hard).. Just my AOL-hating 2penneth.. Quote
AndyP Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Repeat after me, AOL is Evil, AOL is Evil. Run away, don't touch it and NEVER ask a computing person to help you should you stupidly decide to use it ! Quote

Guest Goit Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 AOL is arse.... they are the Nissan Main Dealers of ISP's top five arse ISP's (imo) AOL BTopenworld Demon Wanadoo Virgin Quote
jock Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Well I have to say I have never had any of the problems mentioned above with AOL. I have been with them for going on 10yrs now, have upgraded, removed and reinstalled without any probs. All of my programs work, even though you log onto some web services and they say "if your using AOL this wont work" it does. There was the case, as steve says, that you couldnt share the broadband, but now you can, i use it on my phone to get my email (and its a non colour/ non picture phone) no complaints here :) Quote
MikeGroves Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 When i get a call from an AOL user I know my day just got longer............... Quote
olly300zx Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 You won't lose any favourites, as you can easily copy them to a safe place on your drive. All you will need to change is who you connect with. And wouldn't touch AOL if they paid me to surf. Quote
jonce Posted August 18, 2004 Author Posted August 18, 2004 that's It My Minds Made Up! Im Sackin' Aol. Whats Everyone Using Instead ??? Quote [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

AndyP Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 The problem you will have is identifying all the places you used your AOL email address and then changing that to your new address - it's a pain. Aside from that it's easy. Quote
Guest chunk Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 I was on AOL for 24 months and there security/virus sofware is pants. But as said if your new to the internet or computer illiterate its a good basis to start on! Rich Quote
