was in traffic the other day and slowly lost electrics, lights etc before the car finally decided to quit aswell. as i dont know the first thing about them was wondering if anyone was local ( rushden, northants ) to try and tell me whats needed. an hour before this happened the car got very hot and was then parked up for an hour before setting off again and was running ok for another hour at normal temp. the car also does not seem to be as quick as the last one i had which was also standard but was an import? i have tried car today and have all correct lights on dashboard but the car just clicks when i tried to start it. the car is also an auto if that makes a difference. any ideas?

check the main fuse at the back drivers side of the engine bay. swap it with the abs one next to it. mine went had a similar problems and after rac had removed most of dash and immobiliser found it was this fuse.

are you sure the battery is in good nick m8??

clicking when trying to start sounds like a flat battery

not sure about why it failed on you while driving? unless it was at night and you had your lights on etc, again this would point to a duff battery

thanks will try fuse if i can find it.

it was at night time and had all lights on, heater, radio etc but has never gave up on me.

jump started car today and got it home but it sounds like a bag of nails. car is really load like its missing or its got a hole in exhaust. its really poorly. i have swapped the fuses over and back again and no difference, and the connections are ok on battery. cant see alternater i might jack it up and try from underneath, is there no one near by to help, ill make it worth there while!

is there any way of me checking the ptu and where would i get one from if it is?

I think the only way of checking it the ptu has failed is to try one that is known to be working.

I dont know who will have one you could borrow

best of luck getting it fixed

well ill have to ask about, havent seen too many out this way. might get a new one, will a series 2 fit, if the series 1's are prone to failing? how easy is it to replace myself?

hi marcus, mate before you do all that do as billy said, make sure the battery works perfect, full charge etc, if not get a new one... you'd be suprised what a screw'd battery causes..

regards jaz

Battery battery battery. Oh did I mention it could be your battery? :D Also check charging circuit. For the misfire, check the connectors to the coilpacks and PTU...
