If i had a fuel leak under the FPR could that cause it to run too lean with a jwt chip that its damaged a piston? as its started to smoke again :(

Featured Replies

Wouldn't have thought it would have leaked enough to drop the fuel pressure and if it did I would have thought it would feel a bit rough anyway.

Nah the FPR will do what it can to maintain the pressure on the fuel rail at 45psi above intake manifold pressure. If there's a leak it will simply allow more fuel to flow into the rail to achieve the desired pressure. If it was a BIG leak then yeah possibly, but there'd be smoke coming from your car being on fire if that was the case LOL

cheers guys, back to the drawing board then on why its smokeing :(

What kind of smoke and what conditions etc?

  • Author

its blue smoke, think its only drivers side at the moment or may be more drivers side then the other. It smokes after you boot it and then let off the gas. or if you are cruseing on the motorway and then back off it smokes. also only getting 5 psi of boost but i have a boost leak, could that be connected to the smoke?

Run the engine and pull the dipstick - is there exhaust coming out the tube?

I shall have a look after work, if there is does that mean fooked rings and/or pistons?

If your dipstick hole is that big then you do have a serious problem

Sure does. This basically gives you excessive blow-by resulting in the breathers working overtime. This blows oil into the plenum and this is burning off.....

What oil are you using mate? Have you had any firing problems?

Useing fully synth, always have, and no firing problems at the moment. just smoke on overrun. and a boost leak.

I had same prob.

Checked PCV's all mint, still smoked, checked all breathers (inc ones just under TB) all clear. Still smoking. I changed from fully synth to semi, cleaned and replaced the coil pack connectors and it stopped within 100 miles.
