Morning All,

Took the radio out on saturday to wire up the cables for the 6x9's and subs. All wiring in and ready for the install. While testing the interior light fuse blew. Replaced this and the one for the cig lighter (that must have blown before i got the car) and everything looked groovy.

Fired up the Zed, no side lights, no dipped beam, no front fogs, no back lights, no dash illumination! All i have are the rear fog lights (on a separate switch), and my front lights are either off or on full beam. Indicators/hazards are ok.

We've checked all fuses, they're ok. We checked where the bulkhead had been drilled to fit a wire (which we never used) but the hole is nowhere near any wires.

We went through everything we had done to put the audio cables in, but can't find anything wrong. Coincidence?

Any ideas before i call an auto electrician? Was wondering if it could be a dodgy switch?

Any ideas welcome...

Have you checked the fuses in the driver's footwell. This has happened to me. Third fuse from the left, top row ( thankyou Jeff TT) problem solved.

Hope this helps,

Simon.

Hi Simax,

Yep, checked all fuses in footwell and under bonnet - they're all good.

Having just read this, this LINK sprang to mind. Have a look at the bottom post, from StuartR, regarding blowing the lights circuit fuse. Worth a check.

HTH

Thanks Dave, i will take a look...

If you're driving a J-Spec, could be bad earth choice on the stereo. This will short through the lighting circuit causing no lights (I found out at about 21st Dec - shortest day - and ended up driving home on full beam with fogs!)

Another in Teeside? Whereabouts?

Cheers

i did exactly the same myself last weekend , fitted a stereo no lights except high beam , i had used the red with white stripe as an earth , this is a lighting live feed which did blow the fuse in the footwell ,i thought that coloured wire was odd but it did act as an earth , never thought to test it with the lights on !!!!!! hope this helps any

Thanks guys, looks like i'm ripping out the stereo tonight lol

Have to admit i always dismissed the stereo since i'd never heard of anything like this happening before (tho i've never had a zed before). But since everybody on the site is pointing me towards it, guess i should dismantle it (yeah i know, i'm a bit slow, so i now bow down to the masters) hehe.

Will let you know how it goes.

StuartR - I live in Great Ayton (about 8 miles south of Middlesbrough). Usually seen driving up and down the A19 to Peterlee for work. Whereabouts are you?

Thanks guys, looks like i'm ripping out the stereo tonight lol

I think many of us have been there! Like I said, found out the hard way one dark winter night! The light/earth circuit had me fooled.....

I live in G'Bro, so I can often be seen hammering it past the Cross Keys home from work - scary how fast you can get on that trunk road!!!!!

If you can't get to the bottom of it, give us a shout and I may be able to help.......

Stuart

Thanks mate, got the lights working. Ended up getting an auto electrician to take a look. We had fed a wire through the engine bay, through the side wing panel and down the drivers side. There's a plug down there that must have been knocked as it was slightly out - thats all it seems to have been!!!

She's in the garage again though, starter motor went yesterday. Still waiting for a call from the garage as they said there was a problem with one of the engine block bolts (or something like that). Keeping my fingers crossed that they don't put a new starter motor in cos can't afford £200 (or whatever they cost)!

Want her back so i can book her in for a health check to make sure all is well.

Yeah that trunk road is pretty good for a bit of speed :o) Will keep an eye out for ya!
