hi

i am getting hot wheels after a half an hour or so's driving. they are 17inch alloys and recently had new pads put on. Now i also get a judder when slowing down from any speed, especially once the heat starts. The wheels are hot as in ouchie if you touch. I am supposed to be getting the discs changed tommorow but i thought i would just check first.

is it a warped disc that is causing the heat ?

or

are the breaks sticking and causing it.

any advise would be appreciated

the harder you drive the hotter they will get :D brake judder generally indicates warped discs! if there gettin changed see how they are afterwards sure this will eliminate the problem! maybe a sticky calliper piston but i think you would notice more problems than what your getting

in theory a warped disc will cause more heat as the disc will be in contact with the pad and cause friction=heat

check your tension rod bushes too for any leakage, they could be worn

ps it is on both sides , 2 warped discs ?

If the wheels are too hot to touch it sounds like you have sticking or siezed calipers. Warped discs alone would not generate that amount of heat under normal driving conditions.

Try jacking the car up and turning the wheel by hand, if you get a lot of resistance, chances are that the calipers/pistons are stuck.

If you fit new discs with calipers/pistons which are not 100% free, there a huge risk that your new discs will warp quickly

good luck
