Your car looked fine. The PTU or Power Transistor Unit is a unit that supplys the coilspacks, the series 1 is prone to fail in hot conditions. a failling ptu can cause misfire, power loss or cause the car to cut out completely.

This shows where the ptu is mounted

do a search for ptu, it can be a common problem that the connectors corrode

ive just had a look at car and tried to start it. all the correct lights come on but when i turn it over it just clicks quite fast. a few times previous the car hasnt started and has just clicked in a similar way but has started after a couple of attempts, dont know if this is related. the car was running very hot previous to accident but was then parked up for an hour, when it gave up the temp was normal. there is also some sort of sheild hanging down underneath the front that is draging on floor and the power has been poor ( compared to an import i just got rid of ) since i got it a few weeks ago. ill have to see who lives local to have a look at it. cheers for the help.

sounds like poor battery and or battery charge/alternator, have yopu tried a jump start, checked battery conections

'sheild hanging down' - probably a piece of the spash guard, it's all over the underside of these cars, I broke a piece the other day going down a dirt track at my local carp fishery !

Ye i have to agree with paul here it does sound like a bad battery connection. dont just check the positive, check the earth from the battery to the body as well, as a bad earth will also cause power loss.

ill have a good look tomorrow and clean up the connectors, havent tried to jump it yet but will have ago even if it just gets it home into the garage. thanks for help got a few things to try so ill just have to play it by ear.
