did mine year and a half ago no problems.

Complete decatt, running 16psi for about a year, had a load of smokey probs after about 7 months, changed to thicker oil just before billing and after the old shit worked its way out fine ATM.

So seals are probably on their way out but running em max puff @ 16psi dont help either :S talking about smacking them hard :( but im greedy lol.

decatted for a year and a half without a single puff ;)

(touch wood)

decated

1000 miles later turbo went

dont think it was rear seals

decated my first zed sold it year later no probs with it

steve

decatted but left the stock exhaust on no smoke, changed stock exhaust to mongoose and started puffing smoke within about 10 mins :(

No probs, decat about 2 months ago.

Decatted 8 months ago, NP's at all.

Decatted about a year ago. Running just over 14psi and have had a little burnt oil smoke on idle (but only 3/4 times). I do need to change the PCVs however ;)

Carr was decatted 6 years ago. Was running stock boost until 1 year ago, then running 15psi for a year.

Passenger side turbo has just ceased (they are stock tubs that have done 85k miles - I'm surprised they lasted this long tbh).

Good thread MAC.... I want to do this myself, but have had reservations.

Who changed PCV valves at the same time as de-cat?

LOL Why mate? I just wanted to see if this decatt and leak your turbo seal was fact or fiction;)

Would like to know what oil everyone using. I decat 1 of my T5's and started smoking strait away on over run. Oil seal completely goosed. Next T5 I cleared the old oil out and filled up with good quality fully synthetic and smoked like a bastord without Decat. Same as first the oil seals never recoverd. First set of tubs on Z smoked like a bastoad when I change to a different make of synthetic. Binned tubs and was OK until recent demise.

Roller bearing T28 Garret hybrids Now thank you.

Think oil presure changes and visosety is the killer.

Car decatted when i got it, runing stock boost, no probs, had car 5 months

but how much of a difference has decatting made?

can you feel it?

is it worth doing

my exhaust is the next planned mod and to decat or not to decat that is the question

my tubs seam OK only 46000 miles.

this is the thread i've been waiting for.

p.s. why does my animated big roy in my sig. not work

Car was de-catted 6 months before i bought it, fitted Blitz realize system and 3 months later tubs were blowing for England

Rear piston ring on the back of turbo does require a certain amount of back pressure to maintain a seal. It is mainly 3 factors that shorten the life of this ring seal, 1) age of turbo's, most stock ones still on the car now are years old.

2) De-catting lessens the amount of back pressure.

3) fitting an after market exhaust system that is not designed to maintain back pressure, (usually jap ones)

so it is mainly when all 3 of these apply to your car that the ring seal goes, however it is not uncommon to have failure from just 1 or 2 of the above, just not as likely.

I think your tubs were SE hybrids anyways wern't they Mac ? hence why they were holding out and as well as a healty breathing engine ;)

cheers

Well I was wondering the same thing. Didn't want to make a decision before I had all the evidence before me ;)
