Radar, Laser and Digital Camera detection... HOW?

What would you recommend to the current situation, especially with all the new digital cameras popping up....

I last got done by a Video car, for which there is no way out. But everything else must have some sort of defence. I was thinking of the Bell 990 because I'm sick of my old Snooper radar (not laser) picking up service stations, garages, doors, traffic lights.

Does this do anything for the digital cameras?

Maybe the 990 isn't the best option. I know you can download a radar database into a GPS system, maybe a bit excessive, but no defence against the handheld unit that first caught me!

I'm concerned beacuse the new digital cameras are apparently, going to appear in my local area (High Wycombe) in the next week and they will be hidden.

I am not sure if these are two cameras that measure your distance and work out the speed or a single camera with some sort of radar. I have been told that a local paper said a radar detector would not detect these new cameras.

Advice?

If someone says drive less than the exact speed limit I'll shoot them!

My mother's friend got stopped for doing 31mph a few weeks back. Now that's daft.

have a read of this months revs they have a nice selection of detectors and laser scramblers as well. as well as that i have made it into the write in section

The pilot digital camera system on parts of the M25 and M1 have proven such a success that I have heard of plans to place them all around the UK. This is the system that reads your plate at various points and then calculates your average speed. I don't know of any detectors for these? I'm sure someones on the case though.

Stopped for doing 31 in a 30. WTF! Legally you are allowed 10%. There is an addition to this depending where abouts you are. Thames Valley, it's 10% plus 2 mph I think.

I've just bought a 990, you still get lots of false alarms but it does pick up all the grey boxes. Have a look at this site I found it very useful

legally, there is no safety margin... if your speedo is not calibrated correctly, than that's your problem

it was a sort of concession that 10% +3 was a workable limit to allow margin of error.

that point can be argued in court, especially if you have a new vehicle, as you should expect the speedo to be accurate, but the older a vehicle gets, then you should be responsible for verifying it's accuracy

there are two types of digital cameras in use i think.

one is a digital gatso, using radar/induction/piezo

one is a digital video (SPECS) using laser targetting

regardless of digital or not, more and more gatso's are becoming induction triggered, making radar detectors useless...

forward facing ones are induction or piezo triggered, with infra red flash, again, radar detectors are useless....

the current way around these is the new Geodesy gps system, which is purely a gps locator database, and does no detecting at all.

if you jam the laser on SPECS, then they dont get an immediate speed with your picture, but they still get a picture and OCR the plate to check against the next capture. so you stil havet o worry about average speed.

laser jammers are legal (at the moment)

radar jammers are not !!

PS are there any Linux/ARM/Debian/C literate people on this list ? as i have a few ideas that need some more competent input... :)

Oooh guess where they first decided to put those Dam digi camera, yes Nottingham, Not bloody fun i can tell you.

i have the answer (in fact i have two answers)

the first is expensive.

i can get hold of some radar scra, bling units from my old army base in S.A. they can disarm the laser /radar or wahtever else they might throw at you. but at £100,000.00 quid it is not worth it lol.

or do like i did and not change my licene to a uk one, (so as im on an international one they cant do squat) no points just tickets, as i am holidaying in the uk (hehehhe)

Well whatever you decide to go for i can get hold of most goodies! Laser diffusers,Valentine1 (the dogs) Bell, and snooper. Any goodies you need give us a shout, for those who don`t have my details just click that little contacts button over there on the left then have a look at Safe And Sound, i will beat any price on the laser/radar bits!

Later

Craig,

I have a reasonable grasp of C, I might be able to help if you want to drop me a mail.

Scary stuff:

Keep your pants on, some stats on how many cameras there really are:

And I like the look of this Jammer, even works on some video traps!

Interesting :

* All speedtrap location devices to be made illegal?

* 10%+2mph allowance is no longer

* All cars to be scanned and matched to see if you have insurance

* Talks on new law to jail +30mph speeders

* M25 cameras cause accidents

Yep - I'm not exactally busy right now.

Whats wrong with this government !!! haven't they got anything better to do?

Sorry, but this really gets up my pipe.

Insurance check a good idea though

I'll tell you what was funny, I found a company that will insure you against loss of your driving licence!
