Mike, metal head gaskets WILL fail on a Z running higher boost.

Well its funny cos i called most of the people who manufacture metal head gaskets, the likes of trust (one of the most reputable tuners in the world) HKS (oohh another of the most reputable tuners in the world) and they all say the same

There is no problem with a metal headgasket on a zed but you have to be careful of a few things

1 its fitted correctly

2 ideally you need you heads studded

3 most importantly you need to re torque the heads regularly - which i know is a pain but to run higher boost and power its worth it.

How many very high HP turbo cars dont run with a metal HG????

But if mine fails then i will be the first person to post up and everyone can say i told you so :D

It would be interesting to know how many metal head gaskets SE or others have actually fitted to zeds in the UK cos i only know of one which was adamr's car and his didnt fail cos of the HG the spark plug broke causing damage to the HG

Rant over :nelson:

Second to that if ur goin to raise the boost on the z u need to fit metal gaskets with tomei and nismo to have the highest sales and my backup is the man that tuned the more z engines than anyone else

Here is a few pics of my Greddy 18G and Pentroof;)

Sweet!!

but u plumbed back the screamer pipe :(

they sound SO awesome!

Well its funny

Mike

It wont be funny when they fail, you fit whatever you want rant over lol

Ok Mike what size are your Greddy pistons? Funny how Big Jap tuning companys make them that big LOL wonder why?

Stuart, personally I wouldn't go with Tomei's, because they only have 89mm pistons and a bore of that size is too risky on our engines.

One of every 5 blocks once sonic tested will test negative for anything bigger than a 87.5mm piston and may crack if bored bigger.

Speaking of Jap tuning companys, why did HKS and Blitz fit their dump valves on the wrong side of the throttle bods? They cant do that, they are big Jap tuning companys they know best:D;)

No one every said this tuning lark was easy and we all have different views on what to use and what not to use.

I would like to know the reason why a couple of UK tuners dont like the idea of metal head gaskets and their experience's with them, and if all else fails i still have some new oem ones :p

I suppose i will find out when i up the boost ofter run-in.

I still cant believe that people would manufacture these items if they dont work cos surly if its proven that they dont work then the manufacturer is open to be sued??

Na they always wriggle out:( Latz buys a HKS six speed Sequential Gearbox for his Skyline that costs just short of 6k.This covers around 800 miles yes only 800. The car is used on a strip to see what 1/4 mile times he is pushing and the box fails big time.

HKS wriggle out as the car was used on a drag strip LOL

They get away with it because they claim the stuff is for race use, hence the engine is going to get rebuilt VERY often... Some engines benefit from metal HGs, ours don't really ;)

Yea I dont want any more noise than it is gona make with that set up LOL;)

I've heard people going on about how easy it is to tune a Skyline GTR but do you rekon it'd be much cheaper to get one to that kind of power? You'd save on one turbo I guess Lol.

Oh and by the way.................

....................

.....................

.........hes spend around 50k on the mods  (although that includes a shoddy repair I believe, but the majority on mods). He has an engine though that is built to withstand serious power and NOT just thrown increased power at the standard lump. (now that would be plain silly wouldnt it!!! :nono: )

You are talking about ONE HELL of a lot of power there buddy. Chucking that kinda power out of ANY engine is going to put enormous strains on them. Think of the superb engines put in ferraris and the like... even for them 600bhp is pushing the limits!! Most of the GTO boys tend to stop at around 400-450 (ok also due to our restrictive MAF's) and those that have ventured beyond have quite an serious engine spec.
