When I was at Thor a flash guy in a 3000GT pulled up. I heard him (claiming) he had spent £40 thousand on the car- new engine from America blah blah blah. Sorry, but the engine would have had to be nice, the paintwork was cack. It just confirmed how much i HATE those cars. They had three Mark IV Supras lying around (not working :D) and they are really horrible too, especially inside. Big round bubble cars like an overgrown Micra (!!)

Why is it Supras always elicite the :xxx: response from people but a 300 never does?

:D

Of course mine was the most tasteful there ;)

And As a GTO owner and a very recent 300ZX TT owner I can say that Not all GTO owners blag on about 40k engines etc... This is not a trait of a GTO owner or a Supra owner but of ALL BARRY BOYS who "falsely "big-up" their powerplants. You hear it all the time. "My 1.3sr Nova caned a 911 up the A12 the other day..."

MANY makes of cars have their fair share of these types of owners so to say THIS is why you hate these cars isnt really fair...

Having said that we are ALL gonna bow down and 038.gif applaude him if he turns up at a drag race meet and does us all with his 40k engine. Mind you there was a thread a while ago on here with regards to a 200mph Skyline Vid... I know he personally has spent around 75k in total (including the car of course at around 22k) on it so there are a few "money mechanics" out there! (That skyline is now for sale by the way... obviously not fast enough!!)

I just don't like the look of them inside or out. The dash is ugly, and I actually have driven one. Hated it. OK, I'm prejudiced as I through my own stupidity bought a total shed of a GTO and had to sell at a big loss, but it was horrible. And I still think Supras make people think 'tosser' in a way they just don't with a 300. I am not meaning to start anything- come on, my NA is no match for any TT, but I do have my preferences. Just having a go to get a response ;)

Comon Rich be a man and tell the guy straight. If you think they're crap just say it. I wouldn't know if the GTO are crap cos I've never driven one, but I know they look CRAP. The supra looks crap ,but in actual fact is a very nice bit of kit to drive and I could get used to it if I had to. The Z is beautiful to look at but cost a shed load to keep in good fettle and is a barstool to work on.

I'll drink to that! (if I had any money left)

If you dont like the GTO for looks or for the way it drives thats cool... All I was saying was you cant not like it because of what that owner was like because thats like saying I met a ZX owner once and he was a tosser so I hate the car because when you buy one you become a tosser! Thats the only point I was making.

Personally I feel I can have much more of a driving workout than in the Zed but then again my ZX was an auto and I HATE autos because they make you feel a little detatched from the driving experience. Having said that it IS one of the best auto-box's Ive driven.

Also after a while the constant rear-enders became mundane (and just expensive on the tyres!). With the 4WD on the GTO I can chuck the heavy car about like physics almost doesnt permit!

As for styling I TOTALLY LOVED the 300 from the front but felt the rear looked very dated. I DO miss my T-top though.

HEY what a boring world it would be if we all thought the same though eh?

Personally, i think the GTO is a good looking car :x:

Just needs the standard lego wheels swapping for some

18's!

But.......it aint a patch on a Z.

One thing that is true of all of our cars whatever you drive is that as the price has come down then some real dick's have bought them. When I bought my Z around 5 years ago they were still quite expensive and tended to be owned by people who were genuine car enthusiasts. Now there are quite a few shell suit wearing owners who always have a tale or two about a mates car that was in Max Power or some 600hp cossie that was at McDonalds the other night. Eventually these people will move on to something else and just the enthusiasts will be left.

Paul

Hope your right Paul Cos these Rsoles and sending the prices crashing by bogging there cheep motors

Only thing wrong is they are wasted on a GTO. :nono:

Have to admit, the GTO is a fantastic looking car - especially the later versions with fixed headlights.

Shame they don't have the all-round performance to go with it. OK 0-60 and standing 1/4 they are only a few 10ths behind a ZX but 0-100 they start to fall behind the competition in a big way. I looked at a few before I got my ZX. They have good grip but suffer from too much turbo lag which gives a very dissapointing mid-range performance (my old Soop 3.0i turbo was way quicker in the 40-100 overtaking range). Still, they are up for some decent modding if that's your bag...... :p

Now the Soop TT may look fekking ugly with the Colonel Blimp "myopic" look but it is a superb car - shattering performance (especially 326bhp Uk spec) and sharper steering and handling than the GTO can manage, even with its 4WD. Plus a decent UK car still costs over £10K for an L reg..... :nono:

Hence I chose the ZX - good looking and with decent all round performance "out of the box"

Still would have a Supra though.....

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I like GTO's, they do look pants as standard, the wheels are horrible and look tiny, but, a nice set of 18's and a little lower and they transform. I think with a few subtle mods they are a real nice looking car, much better from the back than a Z too, but a bit oldie from the front (not into the lights).

I was going to buy one before I decided on the Z.

That said, I chose a Z over the GTO because my preference was to the Z, I liked the look better, and most other things.

Supras on the other hand do look kak, i'm not saying that just cause I own a Z, another possible car was the supra, but, I preffered the look of the Z again although older it just looked meaner ans had more presence. The supra looks really odd, reminds me of a speeder from starwars, they are really flat on the bottom right from the front to the back, in a straight line it seems no definition, and the top ius just bubbly. I couldn't justify the cost of a supra for a car that wasnt as good IMHO as the Z. The only reason I was going to buy a sup is because it was newer, but that changed. I decided I didn't want to buy the car just for a letter on the plate.

have to admit when younger playing on gran tourismo i always picked the gto over the supra and z. really wanted a gto but my mate said i was a horrible car to drive so went for a z instead. mind you i still like the gto and if mine keeps going wrong and giving me a negative outlook on z'si may have to go for one.

My favourite of all of 'em has to be the R32 GTR, i know it's

off the thread on GTO'S & Soops, but IMHO they are the

mutts nuts, look so aggressive...awesome cars....just can't

afford one

Are you sure you mean the R32? they are not too expensive now and they have all the style of a morris marina

Now the R33 s a different story

Morris Marina...now there's a different story!

Prefered the face lift ''ital'' myself :nono:

All the GTR's look good though, just think the 32 is the meanest

looking.....IMHO! Have seen 'em for around £9k for a good one.

Spares would be a problem though, at least the Z was available

as a uk car, so spares are available ''off the shelf''....sometimes!

Looked into an r32 gts-t before i got the z...EG: circa £900 for

a windscreen!!

circa £900 for a windscreen!!

Aye caramba!

If I couldn't find a Z I liked I was going to get an R32 to tide me over, but I'm glad I didn't now...

Back onto GTOs, I think 4wd is a good idea for big, heavy sports car but I personally don't like the looks and they're too common at my work! And the guy who I bought my Z from has bought a GTO, and they don't look too easy to work on either- much more knuckle-grazing opportunity thanks to the expanded drivetrain between the front wheels.

Supras are probably an alright car, but from the front they look like they're about to cry, and the back is too tall and thin.

Z's rock! But I agree that the stock rear looks a little dated.

I remember when they first came out, and everyone at my school wanted one. Played Chase HQ at the bowling alley dreaming of owning one...

Ahhhh the good ol' days, eh?

Something superstitious and weird in me does not like the transverse mounted engine (if you know what I mean- it's just mounted 'the wrong way' to me doesn't look like an engine should go that way)

I will get booed again but I like Soarers. I like the 2.5 straight six. It was smooth and quiet for cruising but growled under heavy accelleration. It was built beautifully and looked good in an old man's Jag kind of a way.

Ok then if you think that lets look at this....

Standard Mitsubishi GTO is gonna be side by side pretty much to 100 (Ive had both!) and if there is any difference in tenths of a second ect then you wont notice it to look at on the road.

BUT TAKE THIS INFO... the GTO has a FREE mod which involves removing the Boost Solenoid Grommet and thats worth around bhp and remember.... you can do this yourself and for NO cost whatsoever. Results can vary from car to car but a MEAN example is as follows:

Standard boost is appox 5-6psi.

Removing the grommet increases this to approx 7-8psi.

Estimated increase 15-20bhp increase.

You can definately feel it. (cheers for the info Roadkill!)

Others have registered over 30bhp gains so thats considerable! (bearing in mind its free!)

NOW take the times side by side... They certainly DO have the all-round performance to go with it. I loved my ZX but do you think that if the GTO was no comparison in the power stakes I'd have changed

Sorry guys my last post was in response to the above comments...

LOL!! stick a couple of 50p mig welding tips in a zed & you can get up to 16psi!!

Yep sounds like a quality mod to me!!!! laugh.gif

Refering back to one of my previous comments about the rear end looking dated.. I noticed this pic on the end of someones signature.. (sh*t sorry Ive forgotten whos!) and I reckon that spoiler looks the tits! TOTALLY updates the look, Esprit styleee!
