Hi...

My z has a dead battery.

Simple I hear you say, charge it up.

How do you get the f'ing bonnet open if I can't get into the car?

The locks are all electric and the key just revolves around with nothing opening.

The rear hatch has no key because I have a bodykit on it, so no entry there either.

I have taken the nose section off the car (where the 'Z' logo normally goes) and have taken off the air filter so I can see the latch, but I still cant seem to trigger the bonnet open cable...

Any ideas what I can do? other than smashing a window?

should just be able to pull the catch wire mate, I fitted an extension to this in a secret place lol, cause I had this happen to me many times after de-locking me car.

Yeah.. sounds simple, but i cant get a grip on the wire to pull it hard enough, any ideas?

I can get to the cable that incases the wire, but when I pull that it just slips inside (it's like a bike brake cable... but I know you allready knew that...!!!

that looked interesting...

only thing is that ive parked it on a hill... so no jacking possibilities....

I'm going to sell it for £5 on ebay if i cant get into the f*cker soon...

AND ive just bought some new 18"s for it as well... that was the reason I was trying to move it in the first place..!!

Have you tried using a long hook, getting in the car between driver's door glass and edge of targa, and hooking the manual release for the boot?

Simon.

I will try it...

and let u know..

thanx for the help guys

no good... it's not a big enough gap...

what about the bonnet catch?

I can see it, but how do i get it to pop, ive yanked the cable it but it's not moving enough to release...

I can see that I'm completely buggered...

I'll have to call a locksmith who will probably take great chunks out of the bodywork for good measure.

also... could I get at the starter without jacking...

what is the exact location of the starter?

Take the sidelight out and stick 12v up the feed wire, should stick enough in the battery to unlock the doors with the remote!!

Bob

Why can't you get in from the hatch?

If U Can See The Catch Assy I Think About 3 10mm Bolts Hold It To The Slam Panel-undo These An Lift The Lot :)

If you can get it to Tilbury (Essex) I can guarantee that it can be opened within 5 minites of parking it up on a certain estate.,....not a lot o help i know....

The wire has to be pulled very hard you wont do it by hand, you'll shred your skin first, feel how hard you have to pull it inside the car, now image trying to grip the wire with your hands it can be done bu it will hurt like hell.

Your best bet is to pull the wire at the catch with a long nose pair of pliers gripped to it (angled ones so once gripped you can tilt up or down to lever the wire).

The way I did mine in the end was to jack the car up, undo all the plastic trim under the car, got a pair of long sheers, hammered thin wood on either blade (as to not cut the wire) then reached up with great difficulty and pulled on the wire with them.

I attached another wire to the catch and hid it under the car somewhere, so now I can pull it to open, and it still requires a heck of a force, thats how I shredded me hand up.

p.s dont post too much on this we dont want ppl learning how to break into our beloved Z's do we!!!

Also how come the key just turns? its connected directly to one of the lock pins?? the only reason I had loads of trouble getting in mine is cause it was de-locked, prior to that if the bat was dead it opened fine with a key battery or no?

My driver's door lock is the same as your's and has been delocked so it just spins. This is because my remote actuator works the mechanism inside the door. The "signal" that the lock has been moved is passed to the passenger door which operates in tandem. The lock for that door, however I discovered hadn't been manually disconnected, and although it took a while to work, by using the key in the passenger lock I was finally able to get into my car.

Long chance maybe, but see if you are able to get in through the passenger door. A lot of gentle persuasion to get the lock to move was required as it hadn't been in over a year's ownership, and don't snap that key!!!

Good luck mate,

Simon.

I would just smash the window.

The key just revolves left with no resistance.... it's a Toad remote system like SIMAX's and the rear is de-locked as said before.

I like the idea of connecting the bat via the starter but i need to know exact location....????

cheers guys

I don't mean to be funny, but is it a good idea to be discussing this sort of thing on an open forum?

PM may be a better idea.

If you get stuck m8, drop us a line and i may beable to help ya if you are not too far from me.

LMAO you bunch of animals, "smash the window", "Force the lock", "leaver the bonnet", you guys are crazy !!!!

Guys, You don't need to break into the car !!! you have the keys :Slap:

Listen to Bob !!!.

Remove the indicator side light by taking out the two screws.

Connect a battery charger to wires of the side light or a few minutes and then try the lock again.

The locks are all solinoid based so you can not use the key i the battery is flat, if you put enough current into the system you will be able to use the key, so use the charge and side light trick bob mentioned above.

There's no point in trying to force things open or squeeze things in. You only need to do this if you don't have the key.

However you have the key so just add current and you are all sorted.

OK guys... I did it.

Drilled a hole in the catch so I could get a pair of long nose pliars in and grab the wire...

A good pull and hey presto the bonnet opened...

HURRAAH...!!!!

Thanks for all your suggestions though...

The charge through the indicator light would have been my next trick, but if its off would the current get back through to the batt..???

Anyway thanks again...
