Just found a small crack on the top radiator house. When car stopped yesterday she proceded to dump the coolant out over a period of 4 hrs.

I topped up with water and the leak stopped. I have the hose ordered for replacement anyway but why would the coolant leak and the water not leak??

Any ideas

I heard that coolant is more prone to leaking through small gaps due to its molecular structure, but i don't know why it would do this if the crack was visable, more for porus metal hoses

Coolant raises the boiling point but you would think that means water would be more likely to force it's way out?

Maybe the coolant was heating to a higher temperature and making the hose softer so it's easier to leak?

Surely you've repositioned/tightened the hose anyway?

No idea really so I'll shut up! :D

Either way, whether you like it or not, you still have a leak. It may not be leaking now, but it means that you have a weakness in the hoses somewhere and will start leaking again at any time.

Get it sorted instead of discussing the molecular structures of coolant and water ;)
